Why is Helia 44 same price as Summerland 40?

Helia 44 and Summerland 40 MY seems to be the same price.

Is there any particular reason why a sailing cat bigger than a power cat be at the same price?

Yes I understand Powercat has bigger engines. But it does not need the sails and rigging of Helia.

Moreover, Lagoon MY 40 seems to be 100K euros less than FP MY 40.

If I don't want to sail, wouldn't it make more sense to by Helia 44 and just motor instead of buying Summerland?

Just confused.

Hi,

in my opinion you can't really compare a sail-cat and a power-cat.
The price design has 3 reasons:

- First of all the Summerland has an extra inside helm and a fullsize flybridge, not just a hard top.
- The engines are quite expensive. It should make up for the missing mast & sails.
- Price was never based on real value. It's based what the customers are ready to pay

Cheers
Rod

I think I will subscribe to #2:

- the cost is only one of the elements of a price,
- the market dictates the price as much as the cost does.

Boats are just like any other goods. They are priced according to the same vectors.

The pricey ones are either sought after of good (if both, the price doubles). ;-)

Thanks Rod and Barnakiel. Clearly understood.

However, given the length, most manufacturers seem to be at similar ranges in sailing cats and compete with each other.

Why such a huge difference on power cats (Lagoon 40 MY vs FP 40 MY)? Just the flybridge?

Re: Why is Helia 44 same price as Summerland 40?

FP Summerland 40 MY: 385K euros (same as Helia 44)
Leopard 43 MY: 395K euros (same as Leopard 44)

Engines: FP inferior 150HP, Leopard 260HP
Flybridge: Both

FP 10 year old model, Leopard new.

In all major brands I checked, power is the same price as sail at any given length. I am just not understanding what is hte deal with this Summerland 40 (we are planning on buying this or helia 44/40). But Leopard 43 MY sounds a better deal.

It would have been so easy to eliminate this Summerland 40 but it has 2 helmstations that we want.

What would you do?

Given the fact that boats are expensive toys, I would buy one that ticks as many boxes as possible. You can't really sell off one you do not like and get another as you could with a car, without losing considerable amt of cash in the process.
