Re: Rocna or Manson Anchor ?

Just before the Xmas cruise we put on a Super Sarca #7 and love it. It fit straight on to the boat like a glove, sets immediately and we have sat in 40+ knots no problem at all other than pulling the bow down trying to lift it out the next day

Cheers
Lisa

Re: Rocna or Manson Anchor ?

Like the other posts I only have good things to say about the Manson Supreme and assume the Rocna is the same. The only time it has not set and stayed first time has been in seagrass beds.

My cat is a bit smaller (36ft and 6.5-7T loaded) but plenty of windage. I was very unsure about sizing but eventually went with what Manson said on their website. - only 16KG!! On a 10mm all chain rode. Design over weight they say.

This has proven quite sufficient. I sat out a few days of winds in the 30Kt range and like the previous post the only issue was getting it out of the sand when we wanted to leave.

I have a sister boat to MKB53. I had a 16kg Delta which dragged a couple of times. I switched to a 16kg Sarca Excel(size 4), and never dragged, even on a 3:1 scope in Sydney Harbour for New Year's Eve fireworks, with winds gusting 30+ kts. A few boats dragged anchor. We even had to fend off a chartered boat which dragged anchor and bore down on us.

Re: Rocna or Manson Anchor ?

Hi Claire,

How happy are you with the anchor weight? We are in the process of procuring a Salina 48. Planning to order a spade or rocna anchor. Like you we end up in the 33 kg as recommended size. It is tempting to go one size up from that, but not sure if it is really required.

Thanks you Saltypaws

Re: Rocna or Manson Anchor ?

Quite happy with the size of the anchor: 33kg for a 12t bahia 46. We picked it based on the manufacturer's recommendation plus a little margin.

Cheers

Re: Rocna or Manson Anchor ?

We live on board our Bahia - been doing so for 7 years or so.
Fitted a Rocna 40kg and it sticks like **** to a blanket. If you will pardon the expression.
Fits like a glove as in the Belize above.
I suggest not going small if you want piece of mind. Goes well with 10mm chain.

Re: Rocna or Manson Anchor ?

We bought our Rocna 33kg about 9 months ago fitted to 10mm chain (80 metres). We live aboard in the Caribbean and have had frequent gusts over 30 knots and a few up to 40 knots. We are on a FP Belize and have not dragged since. depending on sea room we usually 5 to 1 chain out. Never less than 20 metres. And so far only used 60 metres of our new chain!
The 33kg just fits in our anchor locker with about 10 cms between the end of the shaft and the windlass.
