I sprayed the cracks between the spool and the gypsy with penetrating
oil, then installed the bar, and pounded with a rubber hammer, ten pounds in each direction, and tapped the gypsy and spool with a metal hammer in every direction - did this every morning for 40 mornings. Finally, I was rewarded. I cleaned, regreased, and re-assembled. I think I need a new 10mm gypsy, but will take it to a
chandlery and get an opinion. If I absolutely need one, I will need help sourcing - or will have to replace the whole windlass.
