Re: Owners

Our hull no. is #9 I believe. We are the third owners version being produced. The first six are 4 cabin versions. Our completion date is in Jan 13 as the boat is being displayed in the Paris Boat Show before we get our hands on it. Apart from that minimal information avalible so far.And our name is 'Curiosity' after the Mars space probe.

Oliver66:
You'll probably see it before us. Just finished the options list with Multihulls. nerve racking as these choices are for good. Have FP's full Eco-Cruising package with the exception of their Solar Panels. Looking at alternatives to those offered by FP

Re: Owners

Hi Nasa, We will be visiting MHS the end of October to finalise our list of options/extras. One thing I would like to see FP embrace is the new technology available with Li-ion batteries. Mastervolt produce 320 Ah / 12v batteries which are 70% efficient and 70% lighter and take up 70% less space than AGM batteries, also last up to 3 times longer. Maybe you could join my voice and they may relent.
Outremer now offer these as an option, Mastervolt have been working on this technology for 6 years now and have over 3 years sales experience backed up with a solid world wide network.
At the moment we have ticked the solar panel / additional AGM battery / wind generator / Eco Cruising monitor.
We are also considering the new Hybrid GXP 5 or GPX 6.5 gen sets. They have a built in inverter and are a variable speed with auto startup once the draw exceeds the inverter output ( 2.5 Kw ) and the gen takes over. The unit weighs 88kgs.

Re: Owners

I have been reading about these batteries and would like to explore them as an option but we are really limited in our choices as we are committed to have the boat in Paris. Many of the after market stuff we would like but FP will not provide will have to either be done back in Aust. or the boat will have to go back to LaRochelle. As ours is coming back to Aus we are leaving the panels, genset, and possibly inverter until then. We have taken up the Hydrogenerator, and wind generator, & eco-monitor as FP wanted them on for the show, so a deal was struck!! We have opted for another 2 batteries extra bringing storage to 900ahrs. I did look at the Fisher Panda genset for fuel consumption and weight reasons but the feedback on reliability was so negative I decided to give it a miss. Apparently Catana not longer offer them as an option, not that I was aware they did! The electronics in the FishPan were the weak point and wonder if this will be the same with the Mastervolt genset variable speed. All the recommendations for gensets have been either Northern Lights or Onan Cummings constant RPM gensets. But then your looking at 276kg with sound box. Add to that our 80kg dive compressor!!!! You see why this has been a trying period!

Re: Owners

Finally we have our hul no. FR-FPA54007K213. Further have included some photos of our boat. As it is the 'show' boat it has some of the factory features, e.g. the salon table fit (yes I know the sharp corners are an issue) and the hydro generator fit.

We have joined the Helia Owners Club!!!

Gordon, Nasa, Sander, Cotemar and other owners to be, my wife and I are excited to join all of you in ownership of a new Helia 44 named "Let It Be". Our hull number is 04 and Let It Be will leave La Rochelle about the 20th of December on passage to Tortola.

Let It Be is a 4 cabin version almost identical to the Helia that was in the Annapolis Boat Show. Our Helia will be in the charter fleet with Tortola Marine Management for at least the next 3 years as I wind down my career and sell my business. I have been impressed with the people at TMM; they have a very keen interest in providing a good experience for their charter guest.

We are not new to boating; however, we are very new to water sailing">Blue Water Sailing and I know we have a lot to learn. This is one of the reasons that we bought a boat sooner than expected.
I look forward to lively, helpful discussions on this forum and I appreciate all your help in advance.
