New Forum and Sub-Forum

Based on member input, Cruisers Forum has created a new sub forum for Fountaine Pajot model discussions. Since there is now a dedicated subforum you should now be able to post topics about any model made by Fountaine Pajot or any model related issue in this new subforum and keep things more streamlined.

This forum works like all the other fora and members are welcome to start any topic in keeping with the intent of the subforum. Thread starters can add tags to their topic to help others more easily find information. We hope this new forum will make navigating Fountaine Pajot topics easier for our members.

Nice! I think this is perfect, and even more than I hoped for.
I was not aware of this linking feature within the threads. We need to find out how we can utilize that.

Thanks,
Edmund

Thread prefixes for Fountaine Pajot Models

We added a new feature to help sort info in this forum on a more granular level. Thread prefixes can be added when you start a new thread to reflect the model being discussed.

To add a prefix to your new thread use the new drop down menu for prefixes next to the title line. Select the model and then fill out the title of your thread and post as usual. The prefix will be displayed next to the thread title in the list of threads.

As the Fountaine Pajot forum fills with new threads, you can use this feature to sort for threads about one model. At the top of the page there is a tool to sort by prefix.

Very nice, Janet H!

But this leads to more questions: Will you continue and move over all other "FP threads", and mark them the same way? There are several on Lavezzi, Orana and others. And what about all other big "brand threads" - Lagoon and others? I guess they deserve their own subforum just as much as we do?

It also seems someone already has started to reorganize our old thread, making new threads? Will this be completed, or was it just a test?

As you have observed, Edmund, we are reorganizing the wealth of Mahe material into a more useful collection by moving posts to threads that are more specific to certain Mahe issues. How do we know what those are?

We don't.

At least, we don't know to the extent a Mahe owner / enthusiast will know them. We are working closely with one such person, and he has put forward the notion of "categories," which he and many other Mahe owners thought would be a better way to access specific material.

To date, four new categories / threads have been created, and 106 posts have been reassigned to those categories. It was not without some confusion, however, but now that that has been analyzed and rectified, the process can continue until all of the posts in the one long thread have been reassigned.

At that point, the second sticky in the list of threads that contains the original long thread will have been "emptied," as all of the original 1228 posts will be housed in their own threads, and all of those threads will be "opened," which just means that they can continue to be posted to.

For your information, and any others who can't find the new threads, when you open the Fountaine Pajot sub-forum in the Manufacturers Forum, you will see a box labeled (any prefix) at the top of the list of threads. Click on that, then select Mahe 36 from the options listed. That will bring up all the Mahe 36: prefixed threads, showing those that have received the newest posts at the top.

The "FP Mahe:" in a different color than the thread titles which you will now see at the beginning are the new prefixes that help organize the material just that much more effectively. I encourage all Mahe enthusiasts to experiment with them to discover how helpful they are. You will see that there are now several other FP model threads with their own prefixes, as well.

Be patient as all of the posts in the original Mahe 36 thread are moved, and the new threads re-opened. There is nothing easy or instantaneous about any of this, and we are proceeding carefully so that we achieve the optimum result.

This is also necessary because what we're doing with the Mahe material will serve as a template for other such single-thread monsters as those, too, reach a tipping point and must be reorganized. That will probably happen fairly soon with the Lagoon material, but we're going to get this one right first, analyze the results, then move on to other long threads as they reach critical mass.

Thanks for ensuring that the material is retained. There is an enormous amount of hands-on stuff there that I use frequently!
Keep up the good work CF!

Not only is the material retained, but the reorganization will make it much more useful than before. Once all the posts are reassigned to their new threads / categories, each of those categories will be re-opened, so in effect the long thread that was closed is going to be open again.

We have a copy of the original long thread in our Archives, so it may be that once all the posts are reassigned and the existing "FP Mahe 36" thread that's "stickied" to the top of the FP listings is empty, we can put another copy of the long thread back in that space so you will all have access to the original as it appeared on the day it was closed. That might be a good solution so that you can always have it as a reference for the sake of unbroken continuity.

Besides, it's an awesome piece of work that you all cobbled together - it's a significant piece of Cruisers Forum history.

A thread that has been missed

Dear Admin,

There is a Belize 43 thread that is still sitting on the front page of the Multihulls forum.

Thanks for the heads up, Daniel. We rounded up the thread, moved it over and gave it its FP Belize 43 prefix.

Re: New Forum and Sub-Forum

After more than a year, I suggest we release the original Mahe thread from the top. I can't imagine that anyone is using it much anymore, and you would still find it at the back.

Re: New Forum and Sub-Forum

Edmund,

You are correct in the respect that most current Mahe owners are not using the "Original Mahe" thread, but we leave it their because the first and last page direct any new owners or viewers to all the separate Mahe categories.

Re: New Forum and Sub-Forum

Like the sub-forum feature, but it looked like it stopped at the Lucia. Would be beneficial to add the more recent models. Starting with the Astrea.

Thanks, Stefan
