Fountaine Pajot Drogue Chainplate

I am a new Belize 43 owner and would like to have a secure attachment point for a drogue (Jordan Series and Galerider). Has anyone attached chainplates to their hulls for this purpose? If so, where on the hull and what led you to put it there? Any experience with drogues on a Fountaine Pajot that you could share would be most appreciated!

Re: Fountaine Pajot Drogue Chainplate

The chain plate would work best oriented in-line (parallel) with the direction of pull. You're only options would be along the inner or outer hulls. If I were to install some, I'd place them on the inner hulls, because I don't like bits sticking outboard.

Lot's of boats use drogues. Are you addressing a problem that needs to be solved? Do you use a chain plate for the anchor cleat(s)??

Re: Fountaine Pajot Drogue Chainplate

Thanks for the reply Shrew. Dedicated chainplate attachments are recommended for a Jordan Series Drogue because of the massive loads it imposes in a storm that could tear a cleat from the deck. The chainplates are recommended to be installed in a strong part of the hull. I've never owned a core hulled boat until now so I'm just hoping to determine if someone has already solved the problem of the best place to install the chainplates on a Fountaine Pajot for this use.

Re: Fountaine Pajot Drogue Chainplate

I have the same "issue" and were checking out couple of places. Best would be a non cored section. Didn't find a suitable one on my Lavezzi.
2nd best is the area where the original cleats stern are installed. U shape gives the most strength. Mine is a hardly used 2006 and has stress cracks around the cleat mounting. I would Reinforce the area with additional layers of fibreglass and put a 2nd cleat aft of the original one. You need compression rings in the thicknesses of the material of the holes so you don't break the fibreglass when tighten down. Then a chainplate as long and wide as the area allows and also connecting both cleats.
Section on mine is rounded, so you would need a machine shop that eg mills a 30mm thick and 70mm wide SS bar half round to your shape.
