Emergency Tiller

Lots of nice people say there's no such thing as a dumb question . . . but this one may be:

New-to-me 2008 Mahe 36. A deep search located the emergency tiller, a very robust Z-shaped metal device with a deep notch at the end of one of the arms.

What we haven't found yet is where to apply it. I was expecting an access port over one or the other of the rudder stocks. Or even a port just accessing the tie bar between the two rudders. Nothing very obvious and we looked in the less than obvious spots that occurred to us.

Would greatly appreciate a pointer. Laughter not a problem.

Re: Emergency Tiller

I know nothing about Mahe 36s...

But the 2nd post on this thread seems to answer your question: http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...tml#post512627

Re: Emergency Tiller

'K. So having an emergency tiller at all is a start, better than nothing.

Looks rather flimsy for anything other than short term use in protected waters. If you go off shore might want to consider coming up with something sturdier and that doesn't involve leaving hatches open to the elements to use and that offers a greater range of tiller movement.
