Cutting hatches into saloon roof?

Hi folks,

I am thinking about cutting 2 hatches into the saloon roof of our Bahia.
What do you think about it?

Stupidity or possible? Any pros/ cons?

Cheers
Rod

Re: Cutting hatches into saloon roof?

Thank you, Cotemar.

That will be my next task, definitely.

Now I just have to measure the size...

Make sure you provide a means of blocking sunlight. Hatches in the cabin top let a lot of radiant heat inside on a sunny day.

Just a thought....I'm not intimately familiar with the Bahia salon window.

If you are looking for more ventilation, you can put hatches in the salon window (assuming it's plastic).

Re: Cutting hatches into saloon roof?

For near the same price as buying and installing two hatches , why not an aircon?

Since I've upgraded my solar I don't need use my genset.
And I worry it will fall into disrepair unless I load it up somehow.

Toying with the idea of installing an aircon because - why not ?

Re: Cutting hatches into saloon roof?

@Alphabob: My boat is fully aircon'd. But I think it sometimes might be justz helpful to vent the saloon.

@DotDun: I actually have already 2 quite big hatches in the front. But I wouldn't mind a bit of skyview as in the new boats....

Aircon, after a short bit of research , proper nightmare.

Going to give that a wide berth.
