Bahia Perfromance Under Power

any newer Bahia owners out there with 40 Hp yanmars and SD 50 sail drives, would like to know how your performance numbers are running under power,. I am looking to change my props and need some decent numbers to work with. I am running 17" X 15 fixed 3 blades now. only getting 2650 RPM and not enough speed. thanks in advance for any replys

2003 Bahia w/2 x 38hp Yanmars (3JH3E / SD40) and 2 blades @ 2800 rpm we're seeing about 9nmh.
This was before the new bottom... I'll get some fresh data in a few days, just with the putting about we did it seems a lot more responsive.

Re: Bahia Perfromance Under Power

with that engine and saildrive the best would be Maxprops 3 blade (16x12) around $3k each....I still have the original fixed 2 blades and at 25000 rpm it runs about 6-7 knots (7-8 mph) depending on how clean the hull is...Bahia 46 2001....

hey Keath, this is JP that purchased Raphaella in St-Maarten, have tried to contact you via e-mail, sent more than enough messages but nothing. Re: Bahia Perfromance Under Power

Our previous owner was an ex pilot and after what he said was considerable research he fitted 2 blade variable pitch DF 107 Variprops.
I do not wish to quote any performance speeds/revs at this stage as we have a very dirty bum and a malfunctioning speedo. I will say that we are very happy with the performance and how the boat handles under motor. We have Yanmar 40's and SD 40 saildrives.

Cheers
Lisa

Re: Bahia Perfromance Under Power

We have a 1998 Bahia and weigh in at around 16 ton.
39hp Yanmar. SD 20 or 30 - forgot.
Maxprop feathering.6 kn at 2600 rpm one engine and the same at 2000 rpm on both engines.
I am a bit of a fuel miser, given the cost of bloody diesel.

Kinda of slow for 25000 rpm.....must be a turbine engine?

Re: Bahia Perfromance Under Power

1998 Bahia, new bottom and overloaded with junk (not anymore as we ripped half the interior out... FYI, if you want to know exactly how to get under or behind that one thing... anything.... ask, I have it open and can tell you all about it, might even have photos... FYI, the interiors of these boats were severely overbuilt!

Our boat has Yanmar 4JH-UTE turbo diesels which push out 100hp each, we did 7 knots into a 40kt breeze with gusts to 50 in 18' waves at 4 seconds apart on one screw off of Pt. Conception, but that is what you have to do when the windless decides to not work and your only option is to push on into the night.

anyway, we have a big 3 blade prop on a shaft with a V-drive transmission, our engines are ass backwards to most of yours as we have a rather unique custom build of the Bahia.
