Re: Astrea 42: Owners?

Thanks Chlemaire. That confirms my thoughts on the exch rate being used by US brokers. Makes purchasing in Euros attractive at the moment.

Re: Astrea 42: Owners?

MM. FP will charge in Euros either way I believe. They don't lock the exchange rate when you put down a deposit so unless you transfer $USD cash at this point (or do an FX future) you'll be subject to USD-EUR rate at closing - for better or worse. I'm considering options on that front as the current rate saves us c.$30k+ if we lock in. Ideas welcome!?

Re: Astrea 42: Owners?

BKC - Yes, we track the rate closely. Alot depends on how purchase. If cash and within next 6months I would transfer all into Euro account, however predicting the exch rate at the moment is a absolute crap shoot. Long term the 'predictions' are Euro will move back up to historical averages as Italy has not gone down doomsday path.
If it moved back to 1.30 I would look at 2/3 yr old and invest into retrofit. It is all enough to make one lose sleep!
I would agree that savings right now make it attractive in Euro. Not sure if accurate and am trying to find out with broker, but there was a YT post from, I think, Cat Guru that said they have taken orders for 130 Astreas and lead time over 18 months. Argh.

Re: Astrea 42: Owners?

Yes, if you want to buy Astrea solely for private use, you are looking at delivery probably almost 2 yrs out. I had posted from YW video that BEFORE La Grand Motte launch in April they had sold 130. That number is likely a bit higher now as I know of several purchases. You might consider a used Helia or Lucia depending on needs?

Re: Astrea 42: Owners?

I understand FP have purchased half of Dream Yacht Charters and as such will have several leasing options available.
One being that you pay 35% down to FP and do not see the boat or income for 5 years as it goes into charter and then pick up after that term pay 25% balance and the boat is yours.
I have all details from the Sanctuary cove boat show here in Oz from the horses mouth plus docs.
Work well for those looking for a long term plan to retire on boat.
P.S. I have a appointment on the 2nd August live at the Sydney boat show onboard the Astrea. If you guys have any specifics?

Re: Astrea 42: Owners?

Yes! I’d like to know if the cockpit table drops down to create a bed. We’d prefer the coffee table in the saloon for the storage, but even more so for the space gain in the saloon, but we hate to lose the full sized table with additional sleeping area for guests. If we could put a pair in the cockpit that would be great!

Thanks!

Re: Astrea 42: Owners?

The cockpit table is a rather simple "box" with a hinged top plate, as I saw it in La Grande Motte. No options to move or change something on that table.
There is an option for another table in the saloon, that shall have "regular" size and is adjustable. It comes with the cushions for creating an additional bed for two. Unfortunately we have not seen it on any picture or in real world yet, but have ordered it for the same reason you are asking for. Curious how it will look like and how stable it will be.
Just check the price list provided in this thread, OPT0593700.
Cheers,
Thomas

Re: Astrea 42: Owners?

I spoke with dealer and they weren't sure, and I want the additional berths, but I also know from the entire FP line, that the full sized table will definitely crowd things in the saloon more than we like.

The cockpit table was just an afterthought; I was hoping it would let us go for the coffee table which is usable and opens up the area.

I saw the options list in dollars and euros, but having purchased a few boats, I'm not always sure how accurate (or rigid) they are.

Thanks

Re: Astrea 42: Owners?

Just saw that Uchimata posted a whole set of pictures on their homepage, as well from outside (also out of the water) as from inside. Might be of interest for you.

Got them when they posted them; split into interior and exterior. Very nice coverage.

Re: Astrea 42: Owners?

Has anybody managed to sail one yet? I was hoping to get an opportunity a few weeks ago but couldn't make it to France that week.

Re: Astrea 42: Owners?

has anyone here taken delivery of their boat yet? I'm a sailmaker who's been approached about building a screecher for an Astrea 42. the boat will be shipped this September. the information i've been able to receive has been limited. the tack setup on the bowsprit and halyard information is what i'm after. any information would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Astrea 42: Owners?

We just received our quote three days ago for the Astrea 42 from ACY and lead time was Oct 2020 if we ordered fairly quickly. We are debating on many items on it, especially since we haven't seen the boat in person yet, but we plan on seeing it in Oct at the Annapolis Boat Show (if they have it there.)

Thank you to many, especially CaptainJay, for solving a few of our debates right off the bat. This forum is really helping us decide on a lot of items/options as we are very new to sailing, but not to boating. We are also planning on having ours in Chartering in the BVI's but then want to be able to eventually (hopefully) sail around the world with her.
