Re: XINUTOP Portable OS Linux Marine Updated
If trying a standard Xubuntu 14.04 trusty ISO file and use this file from a usb stick and boot, everything is ok wit all the tested computers. Also Install from this USB to HD works fine and boot ok afterwards. - to mee it seems that there is a xinutop specific change making this problem.

Re: XINUTOP Portable OS Linux Marine Updated
Petter,
I can't do anything if you don'y give me the results of preliminaries verifications suggested, more one:
md5 checksum of the main filesystem, /sfs/system.sfs

Re: XINUTOP Portable OS Linux Marine Updated
I deleted all logfiles from /home/petter/Dokumenter/xinutop-log/ and rebooted to get "clean" logfiles. After shutdown, I took the USB drive to my other computer and the new logfiles is attached to this post ( I renamed to PDF, tename to TXT or log to view. )
See attachments. Marinux: does the logifle give any info about the problem ??

Re: XINUTOP Portable OS Linux Marine Updated
Any news about md5 checksums. Regrettable. From my side I have get some surprise making dd command from the same source to differents USB keys and obtained differents checksums of main filesystem, system.sfs. Mysterious...
So I have recompiled the version, named 16.01b, with an another compressor, (xz, and more, making Xinutop smaller), alvailable in Tuxfamily repositories.
Hoping positive feedbacks

Did md5sum: md5sum system.sfs
7a881826e11807c80d126e7da0636c31 system.sfs
No match. Also did a md5sum of the downloaded IMG file and that sum was correct. Will try to download the 16.01b and try to rewrite the image.

I downloaded and installed 16.01b to an usb stick and this time the system booted as excepted so that problem is solved. The old 13.05 version was very fast, but the new 13.05 seems not so. some performance tuning to get it back on 13.05 performance level would be a plus.

Re: XINUTOP Portable OS Linux Marine Updated
1) Installed with the script on desktop and was able to get Norwegian language in Opencpn, but not in the system or keyboard. Managed to change the keyboard by remove the English keyboard. Putting Norwegian keyboard on top of keyboard list did not work without remove the English one.
2) yes, boot to other language.
3) no main system still English. English is fine for me, but If I want to change language in the system, that don't work.
4) tried to make a ISO file of the map's (cm93) for the first time and my impression is that the maps load much quicker - This might be a nice feature to use especially on Raspberry PI where maps is loaded from the SD card - suggested that on the PI 2 thread.
Petter,
It seems that you go a little bit faster before declare the script inneficient:
For me it seems to be Norvegian (nb_NO.UTF-8), for keyboard, system and apps
Hovewer the trouble is that you have to select "another language" every reboot. It will be corrected in the future with some improvements about realtime decompression.

Muplex on Xinutop
Quote:
Bonjour frank,
J'ai installé marinux sur clé USB et preque tout fonctionne parfaitement,
c'est un petit mùiracle. Merci pour cette réalisation.
Ma seule diificulté est avrc muplex qui se lance mais retourne une erreur :
"MUPLEX ERROR Input device not detected or bad con"

Muplex: you have miss something. At first boot of muplex, a dialog boxe inform to you that a muplex.conf is created in /base/configs/etc/muplex.conf. This file is largely commented to configure it at your own case.
There is any driver. Muplex use the native linux system.
PS: What version do you have ? the recent Xinutop-16-01 rev C is optimized and include Putty; so Cutecom is redondant.

Re: XINUTOP PAE for old laptop
I have some problems booting Xinutop 16.01c on old thikpad T42. - boots finne on newer pc's. Just after choosing option in the menu, the system freeze. The same T42 boots fine with previous version (13.05) of Xinutop.
The T42 CPU has not support for PAE, and for example if instaling Xubuntu 14.04, the install hang if not using the "forcepae -- forcepae" when installing, but works perfec if doing so.. Could this be the same problem with latest version of Xinutop, and if so, how to set "forcepae" option to boot Xinutop ? Since Xinutop is a lightweight alternative to run on old hardware it would be great to boot also the new version form the old Thinkpad.

Re: XINUTOP Portable OS Linux Marine Updated
Ola Petter,
You can make that try:
Mount the key on a running system or add /base in paths described if you modify directly into a running Xinutop:
- Unlock the boot files
chattr -R -i /boot
Edit the /boot/extlinux/extlinux.conf
sudo leafpad /boot/extlinux/extlinux.nol (for you, if you run in Norway locale)
Add any option for the kernel on the line APPEND, after the option "boot=lrd"
It's a standard generic Ubuntu kernel, so same options, same results.
You can relock the boot system (run in any cases)
chattr -R +i /boot

Hmm,, seems that
[CODE][ chattr -R -i /boot/CODE] does not unlock the files, see error.
Code:
root@xinutop:/media/marinux/XINUTOP-NAV# chattr -R -i /boot
chattr: Inappropriate ioctl for device while reading flags on /boot
root@xinutop:/media/marinux/XINUTOP-NAV#

Re: XINUTOP Portable OS Linux Marine Updated
Petter,
I presume you modify the boot on the system that you are running.
/base is a shortcut.
In this case, use the real path
sudo chattr -R -i /initrd/base/boot

No, I'm not - Booting from xinutop usb and try to edit another xinutop usb after plugging in. Also tried to edit from a xubuntu 14.04 - same result.
Was able to change permissions on the extlinux.en file when specifying full path and file name, but not sudo chattr -R -i for the whole directory.

Re: XINUTOP Portable OS Linux Marine Updated
Petter,
boot contain symlinks witch can't be set by chattr, so return some errors is normal. However regular files become editables.
APPEND line contain already the two dashs "--", so normally you have to put the option on each side.
Strange problem, we must force the PAE option to use non PAE processors...
Interesting for future releases.
In Ubuntu repositories, there is a linux-image-generic (that we use on Xinutop) and a linux-image-generic-pae. More infos ?
