Petter...
Then the easiest way to get Norwegian to your system should be
Code:
sudo apt-get install language-pack-nb

Re: XINUTOP Portable OS Linux Marine Updated
Bonsoir,
Enjoy to see contributions to help petter5, and thanks for his suggestions. About theses 2 questions:
- Others languages: to keep Xinutop as small as possible, I have only include main languages according from download statistics (about 2000 at this day). But it's a good idea to include instructions to download and install others languages (and keyboards) for the next version.
- Reset: Perhaps this topic deserves a debate...Into Xinutop, you have all the root rights and you can make all the mistakes ! So the main reason to make a reset is to delete any error by recover the original system. As you can read in the documentation, the "home-save" function automatically save and move user home datas during a restoration. So, you can copy the contents from this /home-save directory to your new home user. However, for the reasons explained up, it save only your personnal configuration ans datas, not the system modifications.

Re: XINUTOP Portable OS Linux Marine Updated
Hmmm...
Hard to say anything else than "Xinutop's locale system is broken". I would have to install it to find out why.

Re: XINUTOP Portable OS Linux Marine Updated
Frank.
Thx for replying.
From a standard Xinutop image install, you will have to do a lot of settings etc before you can start using if for any serious navigation.
If you screw up your Xinutop install, it can easily be re-installed by just writing a new xinutop image to your boot medium and you are back. or you can choose to use the reset option in the boot menu.
It is easy to rewrite the image using dd under linux or a windows imagewriter so this is a good solution if you screw up your installation. What I do today is to use imagewriter to make an image of my perfectly configured and working Xinutop installation, and then I can easily write the image back to my boot medium or backup boot medium if required. Really, when out sailing if anythings goes wrong you will need to get your working installation up back fast for continue the navigation and not the bare bone Xinutop image. If the rewrite menu option is replaced with a possibility to save and restore the current perfect working image/installation it would be a great and important improvment of Xinutop. .... I would also like to express my thanks for the great effort that already is done in xinutop. My pc is used dedicated for navigation and Xinutop keeps is simple and dependable.
Petter.
What I am dooing today is t

Re: XINUTOP Portable OS Linux Marine Updated
I think that to always have root privileges available is a good idea on a limited use linux pc that is seldom or never connected to internet. Just sayin.

Re: XINUTOP Portable OS Linux Marine Updated
I'm using Xinutop and enjoy the simplicity of the dedicated system.
Is there any plans for updating the Xinutopdisk image ?
The absolutely minimal size of he image might not be so critical if the download is made avilable through bittorrent ?? If so I would suggest to include the possibility to choose language. Also, the startup menu "system restore" menu should add two additional options:
"Save Current system" and "restore last saved system"
This way you will have the possibility to return to your fully configured and saved system if you manage to mess up the system. Todays option for "system restore" will only bring back the original system image and not a fully functional system that might be required for disaster recovery. Also, I would suggest to by defalult compleately disable and dislplay saver. Ther reason for this is that it's meant to be a nav system and nav information should always be displayed. If you need to save power, displaysaver/ powersaving should be turend on manually, not the oposite way.
And if upgrading underlaying ubuntu version, keep to the LTS version.

Re: XINUTOP Portable OS Linux Marine Updated
Dear Frank Marinux
A long time ago I tried to install Marinux Marinux Website Xinutop dedicated marine OS to a 8gb usb key, using Windows 7 OS. However there were issues with the way the USB key was recognized which I was never able to resolve and so I never tried the system.
Are people still having trouble with this? Is there a particular USB key that works? I was using Cruz keys and tried all the tricks suggested.
