At least on a new Toshiba laptop with 8.1 no problem....
But all - who knows?

Win8 does not give problems neither.

Very good job with the GPS-patch.
Looks very promising with Win tablet and Opencpn (to my surprise).
I have found this:
Toshiba Encore - Microsoft Windows
And its priced very reasonably and have inbuilt GPS.
Will it run Opencpn?! Will all Win 8.1 run Opencpn?

I have an ASUS Vivo Tab Smart ME400C-C1-BK with Win 8.1

OpenCPN works fine with Geolocation to identify the location of the GPS.

I have run both NOAA RNC and ENC charts.

Re: Windows 8 Tablet with built-in GPS

Hi! I was able to get the inbuilt GPS in my ASUS Vivo to talk to my legacy GPS software (Street Atlas 8). I did have to write a little program to access the GPS Location API and convert the Longitude and latitude to NEMA sentences then dump the data to a com port. To complete the magic I found a free null modem program on the web (there are a number of them like com0com) that connect my program's com port to the legacy program's com port. Worked great.

Re: Windows 8 Tablet with built-in GPS

For anyone who have tried "Geolocation TCP", there was an error in calculating the speed. It's fixed now, please download https://bitbucket.org/petrsimon/geol...tionTCP-r5.exe
Also one user reported that the program reports position with rather big error (couple hundred km). Please, if you run into similar problem, kindly file a report here: https://bitbucket.org/petrsimon/geolocationtcp/issues

I finally had a chance to test the program and the GNSS sensor with OpenCPN underway and it seems to be working just fine.

Re: Windows 8 Tablet with built-in GPS

I have a miix2 8. When I run GeolocationTCP it says "GNS status: Disabled".

Device manager reports "Device working"

Also I have disabled Power Management for this device.

Any suggestions?
