Windows 8
Hi

I am new to all this but have a new laptop for my new boat with windows 8.
Is this compatible for downloading and running openCPN?

Yes it is. Just in case it has an integrated GPS and you intend to use it, make sure it's drivers do produce NMEA on a virtual serial port (more likely not being the case with HW designed for Windows 8)
