where did the grib viewer go??

hey,

I've been running opencpn 5.0 on Ubuntu 18.04 since the day it was released, and many versions prior. when I installed 5.0 I was suprised that the grib viewer plugin was gone, because I use it daily, but assumed it was just a release glitch and that it would return soon.

now it's been a couple of months, and I still have no grib viewer plugin showing up. googling shows me the grib viewer is still part of the software - what gives?

anyone else having this problem??

Re: where did the grib viewer go??

Options -> plugins -> GRIB [enable] ?

Not sure if it's included in the package or you have to download sepesrately (don't remember) but it's there since day 1 of 5 for me.

nope, still gone. I have 'weather routing', 'climatology' and 'weatherfax' in the plugins list, but the grib viewer plugin is gonzo. it's been gone a few months now, went missing with one of the 5.x updates.

any ideas??

Re: where did the grib viewer go??

Try the open plotter download with OpenCpn, the grib viewer is there as is Zygrib. Working well on the Raspberry Pi.

Have you enabled it? Settings, plugins, etc..

It's part of the package

Re: where did the grib viewer go??

farotherside..
Yes Grib_pi is a part of the package.
What says your log file?
/home/..../.opencpn/opencpn.log Check the last run from start and lookup where it starts to search for plugins:
PlugInManager searching for PlugIns.....................and:
15:15:52 CET: PlugInManager: Loading PlugIn: /usr/lib/opencpn/libgrib_pi.so
15:15:52 CET: PlugInManager: /usr/lib/opencpn/libgrib_pi.so

If you find these rows what's after that about grib_pi?

If you don't have anything in the log file about libgrib_pi.so try to reinstall OpenCPN.

been using the software for many years. the plugin is gone for me, and I have no idea why.

I just now blew away my opencpn install (uninstall the deb packages, rm -rf /usr/share/opencpn, rm -rf ~/.opencpn) and rebooted, then removed and re-added the PPA repository as the docs say (first link when googling 'opencpn ubuntu') and reinstalled the latest packages using 'apt-get install opencpn'.

opencpn reports version 5.0.522. here's my plugins list:

What says your log file?
oh jeeze. of course there's a logfile. <slaps forehead>.

here's my problem:
Code:
19:22:57 CST: Checking plugin candidate: /usr/lib/opencpn/libgrib_pi.so
19:22:57 CST: PLugin is compatible: true
19:22:57 CST: PlugInManager: Loading PlugIn: /usr/lib/opencpn/libgrib_pi.so
19:22:57 CST: Error: /usr/lib/opencpn/libgrib_pi.so: undefined symbol: _ZThn696_N6wxGrid31GetSizeAvailableForScrollTargetERK6wxSize
19:22:57 CST: PlugInManager: Cannot load library: /usr/lib/opencpn/libgrib_pi.so
ideas on what might be the root cause? a bad library somewhere, perhaps?

Open the log file and tell us what it says about plugins. It will give some kind of message if it cannot open the grib plugin shared object file.

It sounds like an incompatibility with wxWidgets libraries. What exact OS and distribution are you running?

Can you run this command in a shell prompt? What does it output?

wx-config --version
