When Will OpenCPN Plugins be available again?

The apt-get method to install plugins no longer works for the latest Mint. Is this going to be fixed or is there another way to get them?

Need more information...

Which plugins?
Have you enabled the Ubuntu PPA?

Thanks
Dave

The PPA is enabled, that is how I installed OpenCPN in the first place. I did it again to make sure.
I get:
$ sudo apt-get install opencpn-plugin-aisradar
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package opencpn-plugin-aisradar
joe@mintyfresh:~$ sudo apt-get install opencpn-plugin-vdr
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package opencpn-plugin-vdr
joe@mintyfresh:~$

I can find OpenCPN:
joe@mintyfresh:~$ sudo apt-get install opencpn
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
opencpn is already the newest version (5.0.0-0~bionic1).
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
gir1.2-mate-desktop gir1.2-mate-panel linux-headers-4.15.0-72
linux-headers-4.15.0-72-generic linux-image-4.15.0-72-generic
linux-modules-4.15.0-72-generic linux-modules-extra-4.15.0-72-generic
Use 'sudo apt autoremove' to remove them.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 103 not upgraded.
joe@mintyfresh:~$

Thanks for looking at this.

A key unmentioned point: You have upgraded to bionic.
Most plugins are not available for bionic yet. We only assure builds for Ubuntu LTS targets.

Well the latest LTS version of Ubuntu has the exact same problem. I am not sure about "Bionic", I just did apt-get install opencpn. Is Bionic referring to OpenCPN or Mint???

Is there an article or video on OPEN CPN FOR DUMMIES?
I finally got my Rpi4 and Moitessier Hat, got a preloaded scarf with NOOB. Once I get a keyboard to connect, I will start it up.

re:

I see that you are correct. The latest build of this plugin supports Ubuntu "xenial", 16.04. There is no build for 18.04 LTS, (bionic).

I don't know what distro you are actually running. By your comment I assume Mint. When you install OpenCPN, your package manager chooses the "Ubuntu bionic" flavor to install. Ergo, you are running something similar (version-wise) to bionic 18.04.

Sorry that we do not have this plugin for 18.04 varieties, yet. It is a simple programmer resource question. Only so much to go around...

OK - thanks for that info. I will either do without or find an old version of Mint or Ubuntu to install.

Using RPi isn’t really suitable for “dummy’s” in my opinion. RPi requires knowledge of hardware and Linux software. I’m sorry for bluntness but RPi is a bit of a hill to climb for someone with no Linux or hardware skills.

You can learn a lot about OpenCPN using Windows. That’s where a “dummy” should start IMO.

Re: When Will OpenCPN Plugins be available again?

I also upgraded to Ubuntu bionic and no longer has updates for most of the plugins.

I love opencpn, but it should be written clearly in the documentation which version is best supported. I thought all Lts-versions were supported, but clearly not. It's such a bummer that I have to reinstall Ubuntu, opencpn and the plugins and even buy new charts.

Re: When Will OpenCPN Plugins be available again?

It is possible to verify plugins for the various releases, go here:

https://launchpad.net/%7Eopencpn/+ar...ubuntu/opencpn

The page allows you to select relases and see the available plugins.

Re: When Will OpenCPN Plugins be available again?

Here are a few links to packages for 18.04 compiled for amd 64, that I have compiled.
In all cases...remove the ".pdf" extension before proceeding.

And finally one that is compiled on 19.10. Let me know if it doesn't work on 18.04. I may have to dig out an old laptop with 18.04!

I had a chart-pc with Ubuntu 16.04 that the harddrive crashed on. Installed Ubuntu and opencpn on a new drive. Updated to 18.04 a few days ago and found out that oesenc-pi plugin is not supported on that version of Ubuntu. I have then used up my two keys from ocharts and have to buy a new key.

Newbie mistake maybe, I should probably checked out the ppa first, but I still think it should say in the documentation that as of this date; ubuntu 16.04 is the best supported version...

Ps: opencpn without oesenc-pi is pretty useless IMHO.

EDIT : I see that oesenc-pi and various other plugins has been compiled for bionic a few days ago! Great work :-)
