Re: WeatherFax ...

@ Paul Munnik,

Als jij de PI Weatherfax een beetje onder de knie hebt wil je dan voor mij een Nederlandstalige handleiding proberen te maken? Die kan ik dan opnemen in de Nederlandstalige handleiding voor 4.2.

@P.Munnik
Gille has pass right. Compiled mostly for windows users, however there are nmea files for testing, and other support files available.

Re: WeatherFax ...

I have a two questions about subjects that most probably have been discussed earlier somewhere on this forum. Regrettably the number of subjects is so diverse that the search function is not enough to help me.

I had OCPN with NV-verlag charts in good working order. I was however struggling with the problem of recalling HF-radio weather charts.
So ultimately I uninstalled OCPN in an effort to create a chart map during a new installation specifically for both sea charts and weather charts. That didn’t turn out right.

Now I struggle with two problems.
- - Making NV-verlag charts visible
- -Recalling HF-radio weather charts after they have been stored

I have placed the question about the NV-verlag charts in the Chart subdirectories etc. thread

I use Windows 7
I have limited knowledge of Windows

I downloaded the weatherfax plugin from the OCPN site.
The weatherfax charts from the internet appear correct and are stored in the weatherfax plugin.
I can recall the internet charts later on if I wish.
However the weather charts created via the HF receiver disappear after closing that particular window. I can’t find them anywhere. So where are they?

p.s. Working with the HF receiving window is still a bit of a puzzle to me. There is not much explanation about what you can/should do and why you should do it and how to do it.

Re: WeatherFax ...

... sorry to come back here again, as there was already just a Windows error with one of my problems I reported.

However, I am now on Windows 10 and have tried several versions of the Plugin as well as OpenCPN 4.0.0 and the latest Beta 4.1.1301 and still have the same problem. I too tried to search, but wasn't successful. So, can somebody probably help with this problem? Please have a look at the attached .jpg you see, that the overlaying weather map is moved southeasterly of the "real" map. This only happens with these pressure maps, satellite pictures are fine, if I use GRIBs - they are fine, etc.

Any help? Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks a lot, and best regards, Uwe

Re: WeatherFax ...

No, the problem is that when I calibrated the images over a year ago for various urls, the coordinates have either changed, or vary from day to day.

Re: WeatherFax ...

Oops, thanks a lot.

What can I do about this? Maybe I can re-calibrate and send the values to be published?

Thanks a lot, best regards, Uwe

Re: WeatherFax ...

Uwe not at my computer right now and have w10 but not done much w pi not being developed. You are our tester! Please report in the wfax theead and tracker fs.
wfax data is stored in a user directory for opencpn, under plugins/name of pi/data.
Paul maybe that will help.

Also the plugin wfax inet files are not stored with lat long, so you must download again to have the overlayes, or you must use the wizard to manually enter the lat long diagonal pairs.

Sean would like to add support for kml which stores lat long, but has been too busy!

Re: WeatherFax ...

Yes Uwe, get the coord pairs for the exact download and the xml can be updated.

Re: WeatherFax ...

.... o.k., I will go through the different charts and check where I see differences. Will then try to find out the exat coordinates (the frames don't show the exact coordinates, so, I will have a look and try to find out the best approximation and send it to whom?

Also, please give me some days, as I am travelling during the rest of the week. OK??

Best regards,

Uwe

Re: WeatherFax ...

Uwe,

The best way is to make a pull request to
https://github.com/seandepagnier/weatherfax_pi

It's ok if you post it here as well.

Re: WeatherFax ...

Uwe,
Also it is in xml format, so you can view in text editor, make sense of the format, find the reecord and make the lat long change, then test it.
Then send your xml when you have it working. I can also put on file thingie, but having it in Sean's Git is much much better.
Thanks.
Rick

Re: WeatherFax ...

OpenCPN Beta File Thingie rguser rgpass
Weatherfax re built using Opencpn.lib for v4.2.0

4.2.0 PI WIN
weatherfax_pi-1.5001-ov4.2-win32

The only problem I had was the formatting of the plugin. I had to expand the menus so that the button selections were visible. wxFormBuilder needs improvement I think. Seems to be working well, but the stations and XML files need to be updated by the users!

This is one of my all time favorite plugins!
It would be very nice to have the faxes saved as KAP, so the lat long is inherent and they do not require use of the Weatherfax Wizard, or redownload.
