I think there is some unknown detail about this installation that does not work that is not being shared. Perhaps by clearing and deleting all plugin references to weatherfax, including the weatherfax data and the cache, then restarting opencpn and reinstalling wxfax, it might work. I dont have those directory locations for Macos right at hand, so perhaps a skilled mac user can advise. These plugin paths are descibed in the development manual.

What is viewbridge? That has nothing to do with wxfax. Disable it.

I don't know what that is either - but it's an error log that came up when I searched "OpenCPN" in my console after opening OpenCPN and having the error. Not sure what that is or how to disable it.

Goto About OpenCPN and you will get a pointer to the logfile.

Then go to the end of the file and search for WeatherFax.

If all works, you will find lines like the following:

It's part of MacOS. You can not disable it.

@Devman25: I guess you looked in the log of MacOS and found some issue, which hopefully is not related to OpenCPN.

My previous message was what I get on startup. This is what I get after going into settings/plugins and then updating the plugin catalog and trying to install "Weatherfax 1.9.111 or 1.9.20". Neither seems to successfully install (the option to install remains and it doesn't show up in the list of plugins I have like all my other ones. Heres the log file from attempting to reinstall after updating the catalog when I search "weatherfax" in the log file:

I've been working with David Burch to update the Ascat xml files. I've noticed something significant about the user coordinatesets.xml file. It is not updated, so the Ascat files don't overlay.


" The plugin copies a version of the official version of coordinatesets.xml stored in: C:\Users\Frederick\AppData\Local\opencpn\plugins\w eatherfax_pi\data to create a User version created in: C:\ProgramData\opencpn\plugins\weatherfax

I found that this version was outdated and did not include the ASCAT files. What I did was close Opencpn and delete that file. Then reopen OpenCPN and use the weatherfax plugin. The Ascat now works for me.
I wonder if we should have a question when "Retrieving new data" after download, "Copy the new official coordinates file over the User coordinatesets.xml file? Yes No?"


Then later I wrote to him:
"Maybe as an alternative the "Update Data Sources" should state "Update Data Sources and User Coordinates file" and when this menu item is selected, the User version of coordinatesets.xml created in: C:\ProgramData\opencpn\plugins\weatherfax is removed automatically and the the offical stored version is copied into that directory?
What do you think?

Hi guys,

Was wondering if anyone has been able to come up with a solution to my issue based on the log file of the errors that I posted?

I've since tried going into "library" on my mac and deleting everything that says anything to do with Weatherfax and then trying to open openCPN and install the plugin again - and that didn't work. Tried the same but restarted my computer in between and that still didn't work (emptied recycle bin before reopening OpenCPN too). Lastly - tried doing so and uninstalling and reinstalling OpenCPN - same error and it seemed all my other plugins were still there (didn't seem to fully uninstall)?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Best to post these files as attachments with the docx extension or add to opencpn.txt.pdf. or to just copy a few lines that you think are the culprit and put them in quotes. I wont read these unformatef posts, nor will others. Just to much work.

Thanks for getting back to me.

As requested - attached is the portions of the OpenCPN logfile that I find when I search "WeatherFax" from during and just after startup when I have the error in a .pdf format as the .docx format you suggested for some reason wouldn't upload. Reading through it - I can see signs of errors, but I don't know enough to know what to do to solve things

Would really appreciate any input as to what to try next to solve this problem.

To find the macos location for plugins, there are two locations one under a user directory and another under the program files. Please search the developer manual for this info.

What we want to do is simply delete all weatherfax folders and subdirectories and most importantly the weatherfax executable file that is being used.



First remove the weatherfax plugin using the OpenCPN options Plugins menus.


The close Opencpn and find all weatherfax folders and delete them and the subdirectories.



Then restart Opencpn, update the plugin catalog and download, install and enable the most recent version of weatherfax. My theory is that some old files are staying in the system
