Waypoints from routes

I have the latest upgrade of OpenCPN and I am using it on a Windows 10 laptop. I wish to extract the waypoints from existing routes and have them show up on the waypoint tab on Route and Mark Manager.

I assume you mean the non-freestanding waypoints created when you plot a route. These get names like 001, 002, etc. and do not show up in the Route & Mark Manager. You do not say whether you want them to remain in their original route as well as being converted to free-standing.

You could do this very straightforwardly using a script in the JavaScript plugin. Only a few script steps. But you will need to decide which routes to convert.

Re: Waypoints from routes

WIth OpenCPN shut down:
Find the file navobj.xml (possibly in .../ProgramData/OpenCPN ? )

BACKUP navobj.xml then
Open the file in a good text editor.

There are a number of "Waypoint" objects in the form.
<wpt lat="xx.xxxxxxxxx" lon="xxx.xxxxxxxxx">
...
</wpt>

After the waypoints, there are a number of "Route" objects in the form
<rte>
...
</rte>

Within each of the routes there are a number of "RoutePoint" objects in the form.
<rtept lat="xx.xxxxxxxxx" lon="xxx.xxxxxxxxx">
...
</rtept>

Copy the rtept entries into another blank document.
Replace all occurrences of "rtept" with "wpt".
Paste then back into navobj.xml at the end of the existing waypoints.

BACKUP navobj.xml BEFORE ATTEMPTING THIS!!!
