Using sensors of a mobile phone in opencpn

Hello!

I'm using opencpn on my new Raspberry Pi 4 and it works fine! Thank's to that great program!

I'm using my cellphone (Samsung A5) with a tcp-streaming tool called "NetGPS" which works fine for GPS and Magnetic Orientation.

However my phone offers much more sensors:
- Pressure
- Gravity
- Accelerometer
- Magnetometer
- Gyroskope
- Light
- Orientation (Heel and Pitch)

Is there any possibility to use those sensors in opencpn Dashbord? I would be interested in heel and pitch and pressure?

Thank you for any help!

Harry

Re: Using sensors of a mobile phone in opencpn

It depends on two things.

1. Whether NetGPS can convert those sensors outputs to NMEA0183 sentences
2. Whether OpenCPN can read such sentences.

I think you will find that the answer to both is "No".

For 1 above: Even if NetGPS was capable of reading those outputs, I doubt that it could transmit them as NMEA. See https://gpsd.gitlab.io/gpsd/NMEA.html

For 2 above: see https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/do...nmea_sentences

Looks like maybe........ But not without a bit of programming.

If that works, haven't tried it, then you should be able to send the sensor data to the Pi ovee wifi. Then assuming your using the openplotter image on tje Pi with signalk built in you can get at the data in node red and create signalk data and nmea sentences which get sent to opencpn and anything connected to the Pi wifi. And if you install influxdb database signalk can send the data to that as well which is great for charting data like the pressure.
Probably easier than it sounds in node red if you have signalk installed.
