Using Canadian Hydrographic Office charts with OpenCPN
I have CHO charts loaded into my laptop but have not been able to capture them with OpenCPN. The load up fine with Capn software but I prefer to use OpenCPN. Excuse my ignorance, but how can this be done?

Jim....
Welcome aboard.
What is the format of your CHO charts? Are they raster( .KAP, or .CAP), or are they vector ENC's?

Re: Using Canadian Hydrographic Office charts with OpenCPN
The format is raster with a file extension of KAP. They were purchased about 4-5 years ago but there never has been any significant updates so are still quite good.

Re: Using Canadian Hydrographic Office charts with OpenCPN
Jim,
If the charts are 4-5 years old they are BSB4 charts, so you will need the BSB plugin. It only works in Windows.
Cheers, ....Erik.

I think you are onto it. The charts are about 4+ years old. I downloaded the bsb4 plug in. It is located in C:/Program Files/OpenCPN/plugins. But it is not displayed among the plugins that I have located on the dashboard. Any thoughts?

Re: Using Canadian Hydrographic Office charts with OpenCPN
If by log file, you mean the chart files directory then here they are. Otherwise I'm not quite sure what log file means.
C:/AK_RNCs/BSB_ROOT
C:/BSB_ROOT/18554
C:/ChartKit/BSBChart
The last entry is where all the Canadian charts are located. Hope this is helpful.

Re: Using Canadian Hydrographic Office charts with OpenCPN
Jim click on the ? In opencpn toolbar then read. You can easily copy the log file or ini file to your clipboard. Do so for the log file. Then open Word new doc and then file paste. Then save the document and upload it as an attachment to this forum thread. Use Advanced options at the bottom them look for the file upload manager. Thanks

Re: Using Canadian Hydrographic Office charts with OpenCPN
The logfile somehow had an extension of docx which is not supported. Look above and I think you will see a pdf version.

The logfile.pdf is a pdf file. I can open it as a pdf. Good job Jim. First time is difficult, next time its easier.

Re: Using Canadian Hydrographic Office charts with OpenCPN
Jim...
OK, I see the pdf logfile.
It appears that you have the wrong version of the BSB4 PlugIn.
For OpenCPN 4.0.0, you should use this one:
http://opencpn.org/ocpn/downloads/be...i15_v12_pi.dll
Please double check that and let us know how it goes.
Good Luck
Dave

Hi Dave
That was the magic. I am now covered from Yakutat to the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Thanks so much.
