Unhappy Re: USERS ---> EDITORs --> PLUGINS !!!!

In the dokuwiki I can't see any icons anymore (for instance the icons in the toolbar). Also the sidebar lacks the "tree"-structure.

I don't think the problem lives in my computer, because the same thing happens when I open the page on my smartphone.

Anybody else with that same problem? (And if so, also the solution?).

Re: USERS should become EDITORs

It seems fine to me. Perhaps you're not reaching the right URL. Did you go to https://www.opencpn.org/ and select "Books" from the menu?

Thumbs up Re: USERS should become EDITORs

Hi Fabbian,

Thanks for the tip.

I just discovered that the problem is only with https://192.138.189.133/wiki/dokuwiki/etc.

When I go via https://www.opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/etc. its fine.

Problem solved!

Re: USERS should become EDITORs

Roel, I think that I need to change the redirect on my website tgp-architects from the redirect IP address to opecpn.org since the URL is now available. That should solve the problem with old links, it may actually require two redirects to cover the possibilitiez.

Will try to fix that.

Wink User Manual v5.0

User Manual v5.0
(comments & ideas are welcome):

Goals:
First focus: Simple & small "Basic User Manual" to be uploaded to git as html for "Release" packaging.

1. Hosted on opencpn.org using Dokuwiki
  • Keep the current User Manual active.
  • Re-label current "User Manual 4.8"
  • Create a new Book "User Manual 5.0"
  • Focus on sub category "Basic User Manual" first.
  • Opencpn.org Downloads page asl epub Sections.
2. Create separate sections & epub packages for various type of users:
  • New Users - Getting Started - Web access assumed to download.
  • Basic Users - Included in Releases. Daily use aboard. NO inet access. Charts section can be reduced size, charts have been found.
  • Charts - More detailed information. Web access to download.
  • Advanced - Web access to download the package
  • External Plugins - Web access to download the package
3. Basic User Manual (First Goal)
  • Small size.
  • Core functions.
  • Included in Releases
  • Packaging compliant. Git repository in Html for packaging.
  • Condensed text and images, without detailed explanations.
  • Everything under "TOOLBAR", "OPTIONS SETTING",and include 4 core plugins
3. Startup Manual (Second Goal)
  • Orientation - Screen and actions.
  • Getting Started
  • GPS Setup
  • Chart Downloader
  • Chart Sources - basic
  • Chart Types - basic
4. Charts - Detailed and advanced chart topics.

5. Advanced Functions - in the current advanced section

6. External Plugins - All released plugins

Structure and Process

1. Create organized file structure & naming convention for
  • Function Icon Graphics
  • Menu screenshots
2. Set this up for the Basic User section first.
  • Create the icons
  • Create the screenshots
3. Use them for the Basic User Manual.

There are some other good examples of OpenSource user manuals.

QGIS is opensource, and it has a good "substitution" idea for commonly used icons in the manual. I don't know if this named "substitution" can be done in Dokuwiki, but the icon organization is very useful and we should have a similar reference page. Same for Menu screenshots.

@bdbcat

QGIS uses reSTructuredText (REST)
on sourceforge here
it has Explict Links for each title and implicit links. I don't know about the rest of it.
Might not be worth changing if we can get good html out of dokuwiki!
