Use VHF GPS on PC...??

I have a VHF (COBRA F77) with built in GPS, and I'm wondering if I can output GPS (NMEA?) data to my PC so as to plot my position on the chart on Open CPN?

Not sure if your Cobra has NMEA 0183 out port. If it does then it would be possible.
A far easier approach would be to spend usd$20 on a GPS USB dongle and plug that into your PC.

Look up the manual and read about the connections available.

I would vote for a GPS puck first and then maybe try a serial to USB thingi-ama-bob.
Then you can use the radio to check the accuracy of the puck rather than depending on a ball of wiring hooking the radio to the PC.

Here is my adventure with a Garmin fishfinder going into OpenCPN:

The Cobra MR F77 has NMEA 0183 IN and OUT connections.

Why bother when you can get a Pc gps for peanuts.
