Usb communication

Hi,

I'm about to change my multiplexer (Shipmodul) to the wifi version. This one also has an usb port to communicate with my windows 7 laptop. When using the usb port of the mux, how do I set the configuration in opencpn to communicate with the input port and aauto pilot port?

Thanks in advance!

OCPN does not use USB ports, you need the driver to set up virtual serial ports. The multiplexer driver should create virtual ports that look just like normal serial ports, and you configure OCPN to use these ports.

Re: Usb communication

George...
This subject is beaten to death in the Miniplex manual available at http://www.shipmodul.com/downloads/m...x-2Wi_3.13.pdf
Maybe it would help you reading it first and ask the questions about specific OpenCPN (After at least having a look at the FAQ and the manual, if possible) stuff it does not cover later.
The short version of all you will learn by reading the manuals: Once you are sure your miniplex is connected (Read Miniplex manual) and configured correctly (Read Miniplex manual) and working (They provide the MPXConfig utility with it, just read their docs how to use it, just read the Miniplex manual) simply set the AIS Port in OpenCPN to the COM where your miniplex resides and then GPS port to "AIS Shared" (Read the OpenCPN manual)

Re: Usb communication

Thanks Pavel for your explaination.

Virtual comm ports and usb ports do have something mysterious for, allthough I understand the concept, the practical implementation I do find sometimes cumbersome. My question was a call for help after reading through the various manuals.
