The SHOM charts are also very expensive to license.
French Polynesia and New Caledonia would most probably require to be "cross subsidized" by the rest of the charts.

In total there are 183 cells from SHOM for the two regions (85 NCale/97 FPoly).

After the summer season in the Northern Hemisphere we shall consider to look again on this uncovered area.
And perhaps jump into the cold (?) water..

Hello,

can anybody explain the different between Imray Chart and OESENC?

In the shop I find OESENC from Italy and IMRAY for Italy. What is the better choice and why?

oeSENC charts are vector charts and in the case of Italy the source is the Italian Hydrographic Office of the Italian Marine.
The oeSENC set contains the complete portfolio as issued by this body. Both coast of Italy including all islands.
There are weekly updates.
The content is identical to "official charts" but for legal reasons oeSENC charts can't be called "official" in the sense of carriage requirements.

The Imray chart sets are raster charts, requiring the oeRNC plug-in. The oeRNC is not yet available for Android, but this will change in the next weeks.
If you are using the Imray cruising guides you will will get a perfect match with charts on the plotter for planning or navigation.
The Imray Adria/Ionian Sea covers as well the Eastern Adriatic coast and the Western part of the Penepoles (Greece).
Imray sets get updated quarterly. Expect edition 2019-Q4 end of next week.
The original sources for the Imray charts are the official paper charts as issued by Italy, Croatia, Greece and UKHO for this region. Some marinas are covered by private sources.

The Eastern part of the Adria is also covered by the oeSENC set Croatia.
For Greece the only available charts at o-charts are the Imray sets.

The oeSENC sets contain slightly more charts in both cases of Italy (Adria) and Croatia.

Neither of the sets will be perfect, the official S-57 charts do not cover each of the smaller marinas. Different from country to country as well. Spain for example is including more and more marinas into their portfolio.

Also on my Mac OS installation, the View menu has a Show ENC text tickable option. If this is not ticked, place and object names are not displayed.

The one from "View" toggles the same objects as from the Display Menu, the "hamburger", down right.
If you change it in one place it will change accordingly in the other.
Close the menu to see this happen....

To All,

I have been trying to download charts for the Canadian Atlantic, having bought a liscense from o-charts. My purchase has been receited.

I am trying to download the charts via the oeSENC 4.3.2.6 plug in, which I have enabled but it is not showing in the Charts tab. When I shut OpenCPN (version 5.6.0) down and restart the program, I get the error message that oeSENC is unstable and accordingly deactivated.

What am I missing or failing to do to utilize the charts ? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

That OCPN 5.6 rejects a oeSENC 4.3.2.6 is not logical.
Anything other special about your system?

I am using a laptop with Window 10. OpenCPN works fine with it, but I'm struggling to get Canadian Atlantic charts from o-charts downloaded.

Appreciate any ideas !
