Re: Up-to-date vector charts for OpenCPN - oeSENC

Thanks for your quick response. Yes, I've tried that and turned zoom weighting up to 5. See screenshot https://1drv.ms/u/s!AgLeDinx1ThVgqgCB2gMK4-DvYUXjA

Re: Up-to-date vector charts for OpenCPN - oeSENC

Yes, it looks that there no data or objects from Felixstowe Ferry on for up River Deben.

That's same on our copy here.

The used chart GB302052 comes in a scale of 1:45.000 and there are no further larger scaled charts for this place in the pack.

The same holds true for river Orwell - here the detailed charts for Ipswich are in place funny enough..

The more detailed GB40302A is not included. But does exist as a S-63 chart.
See the screenshot. So the data are there and are getting used by UKHO.
Looks like another example of this sad issue UKHO has to exclude some vector charts from their portfolio.
We will add this to the cases we claim already to include.

Does not make harm to send a polite mail to UKHO from your side as well.
There is room for improvement...

Thanks for the heads-up!

Hubert

Re: Up-to-date vector charts for OpenCPN - oeSENC

Thanks for your response. It's a little disappointing as our mooring is at Felixstowe Ferry, although not really a big problem as I mainly use opencpn for planning and have a chart plotter with navionics in the cockpit. Anyway off to France next week and the French charts look better!

Re: Up-to-date vector charts for OpenCPN - oeSENC

After updating my UK charts I have strange artifacts sprinkled over the display.
At some locations they show just at larger zoom levels in other locations they show at all zoom levels.
They show up in all display categories except for "Base".
OpenGL on/off makes no difference.
They only show in the UK chart set, but not for Sweden & Spain, for example.
I can't remember seeing them before the update....

Dave

By deactivating the features in Mariners standard one by one, I found that the problem setting is "Restricted area". With this feature deactivated, the artifacts disappears.

Re-install oeSENC chats problem

Had Windows 10, with openCPN 5.0 and oeSENC charts running 100% until I imported gpx files from other laptop.
After import openCPN was unresponsive. Tried several reboots nothing worked so I uninstalled openCPN and reinstalled it.
OpenCPN 100% again except when selecting path to oeSENC directory I get 'Directory Empty' error message after rebuilding database.
Where have I gone wrong?
Thanks
Rod

Re: Re-install oeSENC chats problem

Update***
oeSENC charts are working 100%.
'Directory Empty' error problem is with 'chart groups' tab.
If I delete all 'chart groups' charts are visible.
Recreating 'chart groups' causes empty directory error messages.

Operator error!
The only problem was the skipper!
OpenCPN and oeSENC work perfectly.

Re: Re-install oeSENC chats problem

Vicrod, we can learn by these errors. What exactly was the operator error please? Pleased that OpenCPN and oeSenc were not the cause. Don't be embarrassed, we all do these things, and perhaps we can make things better....

@Hubert

Hello Hubert, nice work. Do you have a timeline for charts you working on? I can't find a hint on the site o-charts.org

I think, it's very intresting for many users.

If I was blind, please excuse.

Nice sunday.

Greats from Berlin

Re: Up-to-date vector charts for OpenCPN - oeSENC

Norman,

the timeline is setting the licensors. We are waiting for Portugal to close an important gap in Europe.
One of the last sets we added took more than two years to finish the paperwork.
Some Hydrographic Offices do just not answer. In this cases local help is required.

The next step from the OpenCPN will be some raster chart sets in a dedicated "oeRNC" raster format. Greece/Turkey will become one of the first regions under this category.

Re: Up-to-date vector charts for OpenCPN - oeSENC

Any chance of getting charts for French polynesia and New Caledonia? The French charts are very good in New Cal, but truly expensive to buy in paper.
