Re: Up-to-date vector charts for OpenCPN - oeSENC
If a second download does not help we will have to wait for Dave.
Looks like a problem with your specific system - not so nice for debugging.
A double boot system is not a problem and as you are pointing out being two system each one needs its own chart set.

Re: Up-to-date vector charts for OpenCPN - oeSENC
Well I've done a completely clean install of O 4.6.0 (just the CM93) and of the oeSENC plugin
It seems that the fingerprint has changed and I no longer have the oeSENC entry in my ini file, just
----
[PlugIns/oesenc_pi.dll]
bEnabled=1
----
I get the same freeze as before....

Re: Up-to-date vector charts for OpenCPN - oeSENC
Having up-to-date vector charts in OpenCPN is really great news ! Thanks !
I have a few questions though, while waiting for the French charts to be available :
1) what happens after the one year period ? Do the charts remain usable (even if they are no longer updated) ?
2) regarding the 'machine signature' on Linux: does the signature change if I update some software packages ? If I update the kernel ? If I update the whole distribution to the next stable version (for example updating from Ubuntu 16.10 to 17.04) ?
3) what about the oeSENC charts availabilty for OpenCPN on Android ?

same policy as for S-63, at start you will see how long the license is valid

The anwser is: it depends...
Sorry, but we will not dig in deeper into this topic.

The intention is "yes". When? Depends from where the wind is blowing in the next months...

Important questions, IMHO
Let me add a further question:
What will happen if one does a clean install of 4.6.0 or higher version (wiping out the .fpr and lid1 files) ?
These questions are bound to be asked over and over again on European forums, and I have the feeling that the stand that the OpenCpn 'evangelists' (in Europe) will take on this issue might decide the success or failure of this endeavour...

Re: Up-to-date vector charts for OpenCPN - oeSENC
A clean install or parallel installs of future betas or a 4.6.2 stable will not invalidate charts.
Obviously dealing with IP protection schemes in a Open Software environment is a mayor PITA for us.
The penalty we have to pay when licensing charts legaly.
If you add that one wants
- to serve all platforms
- being able to work and to license offline
- not to spy the user
- not using physical dongles as sending them around is a nightmare
then is getting even more funny(?).
We are completely open to proposals for better schemes for the Linux systems. Just drop us a mail.
What is on the drawing board is the use of the TPM subsystems that modern PCs do have. This will make the license independent from software accidents on a system. For Windows platforms TPM modules are mandatory since June last year, many older ones do have it already, although often not activated. Ubuntu is supporting TPM as well.
But don't expect this on ARM based systems.

Re: Up-to-date vector charts for OpenCPN - oeSENC
Thanks Hubert
Bitting the bullet I've shot myself in the foot, I have bought and downloaded a new set of UK oeSENC charts. They display fine on my nav computer running W7...
Why this is not the case for my home computer under W8.1 is actively researched by Dave: many thanks to him

Re: Up-to-date vector charts for OpenCPN - oeSENC
SailorF54...
Glad things are working now.
Root cause: The new Plugin does not support non-ASCII characters in the chart file paths. This will be corrected in the next incremental release of oesenc_pi.
Meanwhile, please use standard English ASCII characters for your oesenc file tree/path.
Thanks
Dave

Being a technical person myself, I fully understand why you don't want to share too much information about how the signature is generated. However, if the purchase of those charts denies me installing updates to my system (think "security updates" especially), it will be a no go way for me, and probably for a lot of other users.

Help please!
Have just bought oeSENC for Croatia and generated within ocpn/oeSENC plugin the fingerprint file. File name is 16chr long ext .fpr , filesize 0 (empty)
When I now try to generate system identifyer in o-charts portal I always get error "BAD FILE SIZE"
my setup: Win10, opcn 4.6.0
What should I do now?

SkipperEarly...
Please try to generate the .FPR again, and report the size of the xxxxx.FPR file on the desktop.
Thanks

Re: Up-to-date vector charts for OpenCPN - oeSENC
Bought oeSENC Croatia, installed last version of Open CPN (have been previously satisfied on the Macbook and RPI), installed and unziped charts on the separate chart subdirectory. And now.... the colorful mac ball spins for hours long, Open CPN unresponsive. The installation of vector charts should take some time, but in my case it does not work at all.
Any ideas?

Re: Up-to-date vector charts for OpenCPN - oeSENC
Can you please post the relevant lines from your log file?
And one issue: oeSENC allows in this moment only plain ASCII characters in the file path for the chart directory. Just in case.....
