Ubuntu fresh install no sound / OPenCPN 5.0

Hi;

I tried to read about OPCN sound problems in Ubuntu (KDE) ...
I tried various conf in User Interface settings (default, sysdefault, pulse, hw...).
I don't manage to play sound (Test Alert) in menu Ships/ AISTarget ?

Sound is working properly system wide.

jmp@Ubuntu18-04:/usr/share/opencpn/sounds$ aplay 1bells.wav
Playing WAVE '1bells.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 44100 Hz, Mono
Any idea ?

Re: Ubuntu fresh install no sound / OPenCPN 5.0

Have you tried different settings in Options->User Interface->Sound Device ?

Normally just "default" should work.

Yes I did. default is not working
I tried with -1 in opencpn.conf also
OPCN anchor watch (not "watchdog pi") is playing something totally distorted though.

aplay plays it perfectly ...
Don't understand

Re: Ubuntu fresh install no sound / OPenCPN 5.0

Sound can be funny and hardware dependent. On my navigation laptop, for example, I have to use "Alsamixer" to activate "headphones", even though no headphones are connected, to get sound through the speakers.

So check your audio settings in the AlsaMixer, to be on the safe side.
Play around with the built in K desktop facilities. Have a look in "System Settings -> Multimedia".

If you start O from the command line, you will see a lot of "garbage", but perhaps also some warnings of interest.

This is how it looks on my nav box

It does say a lot :

There is clearly a issue with ALSA, but what to do ?
Here is the result of "aplay -l"
Quote:
jmp@Ubuntu18-04:~/.opencpn$ aplay -l

card 0: I82801AAICH [Intel 82801AA-ICH], device 0: Intel ICH [Intel 82801AA-ICH]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
The right setting should be: Device: 0: Intel 82801AA-ICH: - (hw:0,0) but it doesn't work neither.
All apps requiring sound are working properly (browser, media playerS, etc.)
