Re: U-bllox (7) drivers
Installing a USB gps unit using a u-blox gps chip (7 or 8) is not difficult on W
Download and install the (latest) Gnss sensor driver here
https://www.u-blox.com/sites/default...3264_v2.40.exe
Insert the GPS unit and open the device manager to check under 'sensor'
whether u-blox GNSS Location Sensor is present and note the value of the u-blox (virtual) COM port under 'ports'
The u-center app is great for checking your GPS performance

On my Navilock 8002U GPS, I receive the GPS, SBAS, Glonass and Galileo sats...

PS Is it possible to correct the title of this thread (U-blox, not u-bllox) for future reference ?

Re: U-bllox (7) drivers
sailorF54, not possible, sorry. I now have a new SurfacePro3 Touch Cover Keyboard so hopefully it won't happen again. Would you like me to add those instructions to the GPS page?

Re: U-Blox (7) drivers
Guys I have OPEN CPN loaded on my ASUS Transformer Book Tablet and have downloaded everything I think I need for my u-blox GNSS Sensor and I cannot get them to work together. Can anyone give me a little help. I'm not very computer savy, I'm afraid.
Thanks,
Clint

Re: U-Blox (7) drivers
Have you read this thread?
Have your tried to search the wiki?
https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/do...search&q=ublox
It is very difficult to help without your detailed description of what you have done and what has happened.
Note that you cannot expect Opencpn to see the device if you are using software that is already accessing the GPS, so exit that software.

Re: U-Blox (7) drivers
Thanks for the reply. I am not running any other GPS software. I followed the three steps under Sec. 3 Driver Installation in the u-blox GNSS Sensor and VCP Device Driver - User Guide. I did read the thread you mentioned but may not comprehend it fully.
When I plug in my ublox sensor I can finally get a GPS fix on my tablet's screen, but don't have a clue how to get OPEN CPN to work with it. I'm not sure at all that I have the settings right on my screen display for the sensor.
I will appreciate any help you can offer.
Thanks,
Clint

https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/do...pn_user_manual
See Getting Started?
See GPS Setup?
Also read Options > Connections to get familiar with the interface.
https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/do...rted:gps_setup
You will want to setup a Options > Connection
[QUOTE]
Start OpenCPN
Click on the Options Icon
Select “Connections”,
and “Add Connection”
and “Serial” if it is a serial connection (COM Port)
or "Network" if it is a GPSD connection.
Read the manual please.

Hi Clint
There are two drivers to be installed, one for a 'sensor' and one fo a 'virtual com port'. In Device Manager you should see these as shown on the image.
Also, the ones I have experience with run at 9600 instead of 4800 bps. This setting is important when adding the connection in OpenCPN.

Re: U-Blox (7) drivers
I've added this supplementary information. Thanks Terry. Also I've added some other driver information from Sailor F54. This U-Blox chip installation has been an issue often enough so that we should have had a complete and accurate description by now.
Please review this paragraph for accuracy and advise in detail. This should be a step by step install instruction.
U-Blox GPS Sensor Installation
Also I would like to delete or join the wiki information in this location as it is a duplicate I believe:
https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/do...vices#u-blox_7
Or should these be joined together?
Also where do we think this information should best be located?

Re: U-Blox (7) drivers
I have consolidated all U-Blox GPS Installation information under Supplementary Hardware GPS: Ublox
The duplicate references and links have be eliminated and a link provided in Supplementary Software > Win8 GNSS Sensor. Same in Supplementary Hardware > GPS Devices
Now I have a big gripe. Why don't new users understand what they are supposed to do to install their GPS Sensors?
We have documented this process carefully but they still have difficulties.
I would like to understand what is so unclear about :
And the associated links!!!! There are even good tutorials!
"Required reading YachtValhalla's PDF Tutorial for the new user starting up Exploring OpenCPN v3.0"
Should we add the above Tutorial to the "GPS Setup" page?
Many have contributed. It should be clear by now. Really.

Rick,
Re: U-Blox Installation
I think the selection guide flow chart is excellent to guide the user making an installation with either old or new OS. See image.
The selection guide and the drivers (sensor and virtual com port depending on OS) can be downloaded from HERE. Might be able to reduce a bit of the verbiage there.
A quick look at the wiki I see it needs some updating .. can't get to that soon as the boat project list need attention first.

Re: U-Blox (7) drivers
[QUOTE=rgleason;2831327]OK
Well, I finally got my u-blox and OPEN CPN working together thanks to your help. I still have one question though: Am I supposed to see where I am on an established route like I do on my GARMIN 7212 or do I just see my LAT/LON, COG, SOG and ETA at the bottom of the screen?
Thanks for your help and patience.
