Yep. But it is more complex if you look at say a typical GPS sentence vs. a typical AIS sentence. I want to say there would be more to code than just swapping the headers.

And it could start out a number of related things that might be good to have ... like a little 183 to N2K converter ... ;-)

Re: Tracking and plotting multiple GPS devices

The hydrographic software is implemented as

in the hardware configuration is created Boat 1 and added to it and the device is configured.
You can create more than one boat with various equipments connected to it and configure the interaction between the boat and the boat 1, 2, etc.

Maybe we should do in CPN same logic, creating a boat entering the name, call sign, dimensions, draft, etc., also set icon, range ring, predictor line, etc. Next to this set up connections of the boat. If you wish to create a second, a third boat. You can display or not display the boat's position 2.3 ... on the map. There is a possibility of profiling

Re: Tracking and plotting multiple GPS devices

Baikai, Barnakiel,
I have not thought about it enough, but Hakan has implemented a Buddy AIS where you can enter your friend's mmsi and the alerts can be turned off etc.
This is the most logical place to start adding small additional features that might be needed. Please read that part of the manual and see what improvements might be needed. Then perhaps note here and enter a tracker feature request?

Re: Tracking and plotting multiple GPS devices

Tracker has an ownship request for many parameters shared, but this may get implemented when there is a signalK interface (why recreate the wheel)! Hopefully plugins can also access this boat data too.
