Re: Tracker: Opencpn 3.3.x Beta - Unconfirmed

rick...

FS1035 should be moved to a Feature Request: "Request NMEA 4.0 support in OpenCPN."

Reason: OCPN Ver 3.x never promised NMEA 4.0 support. So it is not a bug, IMHO.

Lets not close these others. I think most are valid, just very low priority.
We will get to them, eventually.

Thanks
Dave

Re: Tracker: Opencpn 3.3.x Beta - Unconfirmed

Bdcat states in Tracker FS#1062

The quilting behavior on Euro iENCs as by design.

These chart sets have many charts, all of large scale. When you zoom out, there is no "intermediate", or smaller scale chart to change to, as might be seen in NOAA ENCs.
We choose not to simply continue to build a quilt from very large scale charts as we zoom out, as there may soon be 15, 20, or more charts open at one time. The performance would be unsatisfactory.

The only real solution is continue to improve OCPN performance, and perhaps implement some fuzzy logic to only partially render large scale charts when rendered at high underzoom scale onscreen. Or other ideas...

Re: Tracker: Opencpn 3.3.x Beta - Unconfirmed

In general, "Solution Pending" means that a solution will appear in the next Beta. I prefer that the OP of the task do a "Request Closure" after he/she confirms that the solution is good in that Beta. Sometimes the OP disappears, so we close it ourselves after some period of time, say a week after the Beta appears.

So, ideally, all open tasks should say "Solution Pending" just before a new Beta is released...ideally...

FS#1106, FS#1116... leave "SP"

#1042 is not NV chart specific. It's a general BSB 3 (or less) chart problem where publishers of skewed kap charts don't use the SK attribute to state the skew angle. OpenCPN currently can't display these (very few) charts correctly.
If you need an example, Solteknikl AB, publishers of the official Swedish charts in BSB 3 format, don't set SK for the few skewed charts that exist. Which are a couple of charts for the waterway leading from Gothenburg up to Lake Vaenern.

I think we've been trying to follow that generally, but in doing "Summer Cleaning":
We often send a request to the OP [Original Poster] and if they do not respond,
depending on the Task, Project, Date and detail backup, we will investigate using Opencpn current beta, inquire on the forum, etc, and may decide to move the item forward to current beta or to "Close".
1. This occurs on older projects, older betas and Opencpn Feature Requests.
2. We "Close" duplicate tasks, copying any detail to the one that is continued.
3. We Edit Task titles to clarify and permit meaningful sort by "Summary".
4. We Move a Task into the appropriate Project [Thomas, thanks for the correction].
5. We Clarify a Task by asking OP to be more precise, explanatory.
6. We post "Tracker: FS links" on the forum for discussion/review.
7. We encourage users to VOTE and contribute to Tracker.

Is that ok? [Rick & Serge]

Re: Tracker: Opencpn 3.3.x Beta - Unconfirmed

Rick/Serge...

All that sounds just right.

The devs task has been made much easier by the work you have done in organizing the Flyspray tracker. It is a big job to keep this herd of cats all wrangled up nicely, and we all appreciate it. Especially useful is the action of pulling long-standing bugs forward from older versions into the latest Beta test series, so that they are not lost and forgotten.

Thanks again
