Track Playback

I've been looking through OpenCPN and various plug-ins and haven't come across this yet. Maybe someone else has?

I'd like to take a recorded track and "play" it in OpenCPN, ideally, with a way of playing either in real-time or in an accelerated mode.

What I want to do is to play back part of a trip my crew and I took this past summer during a presentation at our boating club and then narrate as the trip segment plays.

I've played around with taking a track and converting it into a route and then having the ShipDriver plugin follow the route, but it doesn't quite do what I'd like, plus you can see what's coming because the route is already plotted on the screen. If there's a way to script the behavior of ShipDriver, that might be an option, but I don't see where that's possible.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!
Tom

Re: Track Playback

VDR plugin will do this (assuming you have set it to record while moving)

Re: Track Playback

I open the Route Manager, select the Tracks tab, and open the track properties. Then I close the underlying Route Manager window. I click on the first track point. After that I can step through the track using the down arrow key. You can slide the Track Properties window off to one side so you can see your position on the track at the center of the chart. I usually do that when I'm trying to determine what time I passed a certain point on the track.

Re: Track Playback

I do not believe it is possible to playback a track (GPX file) in OpenCPN. However, if you record the trip with the VDR plugin, than can be played back. It will also include instrument and wind data etc. from the trip.

Since you probably didn't record it with the VDR plugin, it is possible to import a GPX file into google earth, and play it back there. It has been a long time since I have done that so I can't give the procedure.
