Tide + Current data

Hi,

Do any of you folks know how to do the following:

Given a location and a time, produce current (velocity)? Preferably from freely available datasets?

Pulling it from data files or querying from some online spigot would both be adequate for my purposes...

If you are looking at USA locations the OTcurrent plugin for OpenCPN may help. For some European location you would need to download an extra harmonics file.

Thanks, I'm actually looking to understand how/where OpenCPN gets that data for my own pet programming project...

Curious if anyone can give a rough explanation of the datasets available and how one interprets them..
