A lot of people would be more than happy to have the hard work taken out of that calculation. My chart plotter can't do it. Some higher end software claims to be able to and we've had discussions about that before. e.g:

To summarise: I believe the question the OP was asking was "Can OCPN calculate the course to steer from A to B taking into consideration tidal effects between A and B". From looking at the manual I don't believe OCPN can but I'm happy to be corrected.

Mike has a very nice plugin, which uses tides to create a routing with waypoints destination times. I believe it is the beginning plugin for such features.

I think it is otidalroute https://github.com/Rasbats/otidalroute_pi
and it predicts ETA, but I believe it could be augmented to also predict CTS.

Re: Tidal data and course to steer

The elegance of true CTS sailing is wonderful, but there are few places in the world where tidal data is detailed enough and accurate enough to make it work. The English Channel and environs is one such place, and I suspect the emphasis placed on such plans by British sailing education is skewed by that fact.

Most of us don't have access to the required data in the areas w here we sail, and must rely upon simpler methods of arriving at our destination despite the loss of efficiency.
