Tidal calculations

To my surprise, it doesn't appear that there are any possibiliities in either Open CPN or any of the plug ins to do tidal calculations on a route such as course to steer and any departure planning based on tidal streams. Do I oversee anything or is that correct?

Best regards,

Ulric

Re: Tidal calculations

That is correct, but if you know a source of open tidal current data, I'm sure there will be someting soon.

Re: Tidal calculations

Using tidal harmonics, if you have them for your area.
You could play with this one:

https://github.com/Rasbats/otidalpla...eases/tag/v0.3
Instructions in the release assets.

Re: Tidal calculations

Hi both,

Thank you! The oTidal plug in looks very useful. I have downloade and ran it, but it doesn't come up under "options", "plug ins" in Open CPN in order for me to enable it. I have searched both under "master" and "beta". Does it need to be specially imported because it is in Beta stage?

Best regards,

Ulric

Re: Tidal calculations

Ulric...

Which OS? I have it running on both OpenCPN 5.0 and 5.2 (Windows).

Re: Tidal calculations

My mistake. It is a beta legacy plugin. You need to get the installer from the Github page:
https://github.com/Rasbats/otidalpla...eases/tag/v0.3

For comments etc please use the thread for the plugin:

Re: Tidal calculations

Something else to play with is tidal current gribs:
https://github.com/Rasbats/otidalroute_pi

Instruction page:
https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/do...ns:otidalroute

Plugin discussion thread:
https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...te-175296.html

I have not done any testing using the weather routing plugin.
