TEAMVIEWER AND OPENCPN

Whilst I am waiting for the return of my newly purchased Galaxy 10.1v Tab with an ICS upgrade,
I have installed the TWO versions of TeamViewer which will enable me to do the following:

1. Take FULL remote control of my PC from my Galaxy SII as well as my Galaxy 10.2v Tab. That means I can run OpenCPN and all it´s features from my Galaxy Tab with a 10.1" screen. I can of course also run qtVlm and any other program I have on my PC or laptop.

2. Take FULL control of my Galaxy SII and Galaxy 10.1v Tab from my PC which is handy for entering long text or data, allowing me to use a normal keyboard and mouse.

TeamViewer is truly a great facility which is FREE for personal use but VERY expensive for commercial use.

Re: TEAMVIEWER AND OPENCPN

Looks good. Does Teamviewer have to be connected to the internet to work? More specifically can it be used between two devices connected wirelessly?

Thanks

Opie91..

I think so far you need internet but I am asking the produser to consider adding
a bluetooth option. You can also copy/paste between connected units.

You can of course use PocketCloud for full control of your PC programs without
internet access,PROVIDED you have local Wi-Fi connection. If not, you can buy
a cheap USB Wi-Fi pendrive for access anywhere on your boat.

Opie91..

Good News!! TeamViewer has just released beta 8.
Download here: Download grátis do TeamViewer para Windows

You can now use TeamViewer over LAN without internet requirement.
If you do´nt already have a network on board, just get a USB router.

You can now run and operate OpenCPN from your tablet.

Thanks Tore!!!
I will definitely give this a try. It will be nice to have a tablet in the cockpit displaying everything on the main computer.

Tore,

Can u PLS expand on the Internet-less connectivity?

What is the exact hardware/software configuration you employed?

Re: TEAMVIEWER AND OPENCPN

barnakiel..

Do´nt know if I can explain further than you will read in this thread.
Basically you need to set up a LAN on board between your laptop and the
smartphone or Tablet you want to connect. A small USB pendrive router will do.
Then you need the TeamViewer Desktop software, and finally download and install
the TeamViewer app for your phone/tab.

TeamViewer also allows you to do the exact reverse, view and operate your phone/tab from your laptop with keyboard and mouse.

Tore,

Is a USB router a proper router (?) or do you mean a USB wi-fi dongle (wi-fi adapter).

I have not seen USB routers here. All routers here are either Wi-fi or accessed via Ethernet cable.

PS Our netbook has an on-the-board wi-fi card. Will this suffice?

Is the connection via ad-hoc network possible now with the TeamViewer beta software?

Re: TEAMVIEWER AND OPENCPN

barnakiel..

There are many types available if you do a google... Here is one:
USB Wireless LAN Network Card Adapter (Branco) CN0000W - 33,63 dólares - Router Acessível e Modems

Yes it is now possible to use LAN to connect your Tab with a laptop/PC

Please note I´m not an expert in this field but I have connected MY Tab via LAN to my D-Link router using TeamViewer. I can disconnect internet,(it does that at regular intervals in Brazil and I still have my connection.

Re: TEAMVIEWER AND OPENCPN

Tore, I guess what you mean is that you will have a window on your Android Tablet that will show the application running on your PC? And either Android device will also have remote control. Did I get it correctly? (Hence the screen shot you posted was your Android phone doing just that).

I see that you mentioned moving and managing data or files too.

Re: TEAMVIEWER AND OPENCPN

sgschwend..

Yes,the PC or laptop screen are duplicated on my Galaxy devices and ANY program can be executed via the TeamViewer cursor.

You can use it with or without Internet access.

Although you can also do file transfers with TeamViewer I prefer using PocketCloud Explorer.

Re: TEAMVIEWER AND OPENCPN

I like it, just won't work on any of my devices. Perhaps that will change in the future.

Just use VNC. A little googling and you will have it all sorted out. Its also free.

Last time I do shopping on internet other than software.

THEY LOST MY TABLET!!

They do´nt have more in stock and promised me a refund next week.. (fingers crossed)

Meantime I´m running OruxMaps in FULL SCREEN mode from my Galaxy SII using TeamViewer. Here´s two of the modes I can use.

Re: TEAMVIEWER AND OPENCPN

I was very interested to see you initial thread, so I went and got TeamViewer the other day. It works fine with the internet connected,(although a bit hard to read on a small phone screen) but I can't get it to work just using the Dlink router. I input the IP address of the laptop, but no connection results.
Did you make any setup adjustments to the router, port forwarding, etc?
