Re: TEAMVIEWER AND OPENCPN

paulr..

For local connection without internet, chose the LAN function in the setup menu.

I recently bought a Galaxy 10.1 tab and I now have the best of both worlds, access to all my Android apps and access to all my Windows based programs on my laptop safely located down below decks.

I have also added a small USB connector and use my pendrives for all heavy storage such as charts etc. Works s treat!

Angry Re: TEAMVIEWER AND OPENCPN

I have been told by the Teamviewer people that my Nexus 7 will not connect without the internet for technical reasons associated with the OS. In as much as the Remote Desktop app works ok I am suspicious that I am not getting the right scoop.....on the other hand many of my apps stopped working when I 'upgraded' to the nexus 7 so this may be just one more?

Can one of you android gurus out there shed any light on this?

Android version 4.2. Kernel version 3.1.10.

Thanks, Bruce

Re: TEAMVIEWER AND OPENCPN

Bruce..

When I made the same inquiry as you some time ago, this was their answer:
I IS possible to connect an Android tab with a laptop WITHOUT internet connection.
Perhaps you have to set up your LAN connection in a special way?

Re: TEAMVIEWER AND OPENCPN

Thx Tore...the LAN option (disguised as two of three options) was the first suggestion back from the TV people.....it is required, but apparently not sufficient. I was hoping you had found the key until I realized that you probably have a different version of android. I have since received at least 8 replies from different TV techs...the last the only one to suggest that it was not technically possible?

Perhaps there is a guru out there somewhere that can help?

Re: TEAMVIEWER AND OPENCPN

Do´nt know if it makes a difference but I have a Galaxy 10.1v upgraded to ICS.

I will see if the tech people at TeamViewer can give me a better answer..

Re: TEAMVIEWER AND OPENCPN

I just tried Teamviewer on my Bionic to control my laptop. It works fine. Not too useful with the phone's small screen. Thanks for posting about it. I love this idea. Time to shop for a cheap Android tablet and a mini PC to run either Linux and/or Windows.

Re: TEAMVIEWER AND OPENCPN

Just a heads up. I tried it on linux and its a no go. The install is via wine, so when you launch it from your phone you get the windows desktop not the linux desktop, which is kinda useless. The solution on linux is VNC (I use tightVNC) which is available for all platforms and android. Dont know about apple products. And is all free.

Re: TEAMVIEWER AND OPENCPN

I have been talking with TeamViewer to make available an option to duplicate the mouse cursor when connected to the PC/Laptop. I tried the various settings in the TeamViewer´s home computer setup but without the desired result.

This will avoid having to touch your Tablet screen leaving messy fingerprints, and will also free the only communications port fitted with a USB connector, for pendrive storage etc. as you would otherwise occupy the USB port with a bluetooth ´dongle in order to use a bluetooth mouse.

I bought a universal car charger some time ago which also have a 5v USB port with a 1 amp capacity. Should strictly speaking be 2 amp for the Galaxy 10.1 Tab but it works perfectly.
Please note, your Tablet battery connection setup will show,"USB device connected - Discharging". Ignore this,it really IS charging!

Thanks for the heads up. So no native linux then. I'll look into VNC stuff that was mentioned.

Re: TEAMVIEWER AND OPENCPN

The problem here is that Teamviewer is compiled for linux in wine emulation mode. Wine has a windows desktop if you activate it. So when you connect with Teamviewer wine says..hay..it wants the windows desktop...not the linux desktop. VNC is native x11 stuff, which means that it displays the linux desktop on any supported platform for which there is a viewer. Its been around for at least a decade. My bet is that its incorporated in Teamviewer as the stuff is gpl sourced.

Re: TEAMVIEWER AND OPENCPN

I downloaded an update of Teamviewer for my Nexus 7 tonight and it permits connecting the N7 to the PC on the LAN. Many kudos to the Teamviewer team - outstanding response.

Re: TEAMVIEWER AND OPENCPN

You may want to take a look at splashtop, at http://www.splashtop.com/home as its has some interesting features as well. Its platform agnostic on the server side and both android and iOS are supported.

Best regards

Just to let you know that the latest version of TeamViewer allows connection between tablet and laptop via LAN (hotspot setup) without the need of any internet connection.

Re: TEAMVIEWER AND OPENCPN

Tore:

Just tested the latest download for linux and happy to report that it now supports the linux not wine desktop. Dont know what really changed but it simply works. So I can run OCPN on my little Samsung Galley Ace....sloooowly mind you...but technically it works. MxMariner works as well.
