Re: Tactics Plugin

Ah, yes... I see what Petri was talking about. I tried running O off of a signalK server and it indeed translates the PGN into "Pitch"/"Roll" and that works in Tactics. See attached...

Re: Tactics Plugin

I intend to add Plugin Manager Jon's frontend2, to petri's DashT (released version only). Which one are you using?

Also perhaps I can add a temperature selector to Tactics.

Re: Tactics Plugin

Please consider adding an option to specify sea-water temperature units (F or C).
Thank you,
Don

Re: Tactics Plugin

I have just noticed that Tactics 1.0.26 isn't working properly. The polar overlay which requires opengl no longer works and the starboard layline is missing. This is after making changes to work with Raspbian and MacOS and to fix the screwed up preferences menu, plus some changes to icons.

I have tried the Windows version of Tactics 1.0.21

and the polar overlay works but the port layline does not, also the preferences menu is not really legible in some areas.

Re: Tactics Plugin

I found that the problems are due to a setting in Preferences > Parameters that causes some calculations to fail. The parameter is when Layline Dampening Factor is set to 1 (which is shown as an allowed value). When the value=1 then polar overlay does not work, nor do the laylines, and Opencpn is caused to fail.

Setting this value= 0.99, or less fixes the problem.

I have changed the allowed range in the text message, but have not fixed the calculations or provided automatic range checking.

Tactics seems to be working fine now with a setting of 0.5

Re: Tactics Plugin

Ojessie,

Unfortunately your links don't mean much to me (ie not useful)

Dashboard-Tactics basically follows Dashboard but extends it, as does Tactics_pi.
There are two versions of Dashboard-tactics one that is advanced and the one that we distribute.
Neither Dashboard-Tactics or Tactics have been changed for the barometer lately, although I believe I made a PR in Tactics to fix the barometer here
https://github.com/rgleason/tactics_...f53294733cceaf

You could try that plugin in PIM to see if the barometer works. If it does, then I can make the same change in Dashboard-Tactics.

Re: Tactics Plugin

Well, thanks for your reply and sorry for confusing you. You are demanding too much from me. I'm not a developer but a kind of advanced user trying to survive in this new environment ;-).
I had a hard time to finally get the sensor up and running. Bottom line is that the data is shown in the standard dashboard but not in the tactic-dashboard. Which is a plugin in opencpn. If you show me where I can download / install your plugin I'd highly appreciate.
Best regards too Boston from Vienna, was there a couple of times.

PS.: Sorry my bad found it ... getting tired.

But the same problem no barometric data shown.

So you made a new sensor from BME280 for Temperature, Relative Humidity & Barometric Pressure. You then were able get the data shown in the standard Dashboard. The sensor effort is totally independent from Opencpn.

---
Opencpn only reads nmea0183 sentences.

Please describe your entire data path and all devices. Also are you using SignalK?

Also please provide a short VDR recorded file which has the Barometer sentence in it which you see in the Dashboard, and uploaded here. I need the barometric sentence.

Tactics_pi should be in the OpenCPN PIM, provided it was not removed.

BTW what version of RPI are you using? (It may have been removed because of compile issues with gtk3)

Re: Tactics Plugin

Thanks for your patience. I'm still learning.
My basic idea is to setup an "additional" central information device in the salon. The boat is equipped with Garmin running on a NMEA2000 network / protocol. I'm currently at home 7 hours by car away from the boat will be there in 4 weeks. The BME280 is the only sensor connected to my Raspberry PI4 8Gbyte. At the boat the Raspberry will be connected to NMEA2000 by this ethernet gateway https://www.yachtd.com/products/ethernet_gateway.html getting all the data from the NMEA2000 network ... hopefully.
Setup:
- Raspberry PI4 8Gbyte
- SW Raspberry OS Buster release 2022/04/04
- Openplotter latest stable installed
- Opencpn latest stable installed
- SignalK lattest stable installed and using it for my BME280
- i2c installed and enabled
- Opencpn with Signalk connected by localhost Port3000

Screenshots will follow ... I'm busy with mother day.

How to I get Barameter sentence?
My basic idea is, to use SignalK as converter to my existing NMEA2000 and Opencpn with it's features as GUI ... sorry in black and white.

Best

Re: Tactics Plugin

The opencpn manual has an advanced section with nmea0183 sentences that are supported by dashboard.
https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/do..._sentences#xdr

Do you see the xdr barometer sentence in you nmea debug window?
If not, that is the reason it is not working.

Strip your system down to only what is essential and try to follow the barometric sentence all the way through the system. I think the problem is in your multipex/converter.

BTW this is an installation problem and it should probably not be in this thread. So please make a new thread for yourself, describing your problem specifically. We will respond there, not here.

Re: Tactics Plugin

@ojessie

Here is a screenshot of Tactics with the barometric shown working with a VDR file which I will attach below. Tactics works for barometric pressure.

I am going to push a new Tactics version 1.0.29.1 up github, and the builds will deploy to Cloudsmith Opencpn tactics-beta https://cloudsmith.io/~opencpn/repos...es/?q=1.0.29.1 Wait for it to build and deploy, then download the tarball for your OS and install with Options > PI > "Import Plugin" and then enable.

Later I will push this update to the PIM beta catalog.
