Super Dark Satellite Charts

Hi Everyone!

A few years back i made a ton of satellite charts with sas planet etc. Recently i loaded them into my new charting system and they all seem incredibly dark for some reason. One of the things i loved about the Sat charts was the ability to see reefs etc in the water. Now all the water is essentially black.

I also downloaded some sat charts from an online source, and they suffer from the same problem. I poked around the forum but couldnt find anyone else habving the same problem. I feel like it must be something in the way a new version of opencpn interprets the data or something, but i really have no idea. The system is running on a macmini with the M2 chip, OpenGL on.

Anyone else have this problem, and better yet, a solution?

Cheers!

Greg

Just for a try: changing the desktop theme to bright, what happens?

It looks to me like you are showing a wide area KAP chart (the one with the blue "Piano Key"). The reason that the mbtiles format was created is that the KAP format is limited to 256 colors, so colors get blended, especially if you are doing a large area.
I don't think it's OpenCPN but your chart. Try re-creating as an mbtile and I bet all the colors show up.
Just a quick look at Sas.Planet with Google Sat view of that same area, the deep water IS very dark, exceptin shore where it is sand.
