Stuff
Hello all
I'm new to the program and the forum. First off thanks to all envolved for the program and there participation. Sorry if these things have been addressed but I have a few comments and questions.
The boat icon seemed to large but I got around that by saving the original as a xmp file, re-sizeing it and putting it in the Usericon folder as ownship.xmp.
I'm using NY RNCs from NOAA and the depths displayed on the charts do not match with the selected units under the Vector Chart tab, if I select Fathoms I seem to get feet on the chart, etc.
I'm not having much luck using nmea data on my outut port, my downstream equiptment is not responding. Works ok in SeaClear but I guess there is no nmea out monitor or filters to mess around with at this point. I have two GPS inputs into the laptop but I can only configure to use one at a time.
Still learning all the features but this is one great program.
Thanks,
Amityangler

I'll field one of those:
An RNC is a raster chart. So vector setting will have no effect.
Since a raster chart is effectively just a picture of a paper chart, you can't change things like depth units, etc.
If you download the ENC charts for that same region, you'll get all that functionality.

Re: Stuff
Dan
Thanks for the reply, I mistakenly wrote "RNC's in my original message, my charts are NY ENC's, sorry for the error. Not sure why but I get the units displayed in feet when I select fathoms, when I select feet the numbers are way off (very high). The chart is US5NY53M. It just looks to be a bug.
Tks,

Re: Stuff
If you'll give me the coordinates where I can find that chart I'll try to re-create on my machine.

Re: Stuff
Hi Amity, I'd like to reduce the size of the "Ownship" icon too. Where is it found? I don't see a Usericon folder. Is all this done before compliation or can I do it from the installed files (W7 and Ubuntu)?
Tks

Re: Stuff
Hmmm. Maybe I need to update my charts. Didn't find it. So I looked in my directory. Nope, not there. But my last download was several months ago, so it's probably new.

Gypsy
You have to make the usericon folder yourself in the openCPN folder, the instructions are in the user manual under help. I'll try to attach the xpm file I made, you can re-size it with a xpm image editor if needed

Re: Stuff
Thanks Amity, I would appreciate that file and I'll check the manual too. I read it quite a bit initially but as the use of OCPN is so easy and mostly intuitive I have not been back to it.

Re: Stuff
Amityangler....
Thanks for the screenshots.
They look all right to me. What you are seeing when set in "feet" are "feet and deci-feet", so, for example, 1.4 Fathoms = (1.4 * 6) = 8.4 ft.
You will notice that the decimal part of all soundings displayed on the screen are just slightly dropped below the baseline of the overall text string. So, what looks like "84" on the screen should be read as "8.4"
I apologize if this seems to sound like kindergarten. I may be missing your point entirely.
Thanks
Dave

Re: Stuff
Dan
Thanks for the explanation. I never saw that format before, it looks like alot of information. Is there any control over what format is displayed? The screenshot on this post was what I was used to seeing.
Thanks again,
Amityangler

Re: Stuff
Amityangler,
I do not see any fractions of depth numbers in your chart above you are familiar to use.
So what is better? OpenCPN uses an international standard here.
