Stuck with charts

Hello,
I have a mac (Intel - 10.6.8). I have downloaded OpenCpn (for the first time) and dowloaded Noaa BSB and Enc charts for the Gulf of Mexico + installed GPS . But each time I go to look at the charts in the S-57 format, I get either the coloured wheel turning or the little watch and it says
OpenCPN S57 file create....users/... library/preferences/SENC.
What is going on? The gulf of Mexico is fairly big and have busy maps!

Thank you very much. Sorry for missing the part in the manual. I will be patient then and will get all those files downloaded in SENC. And will start experimenting with the software!
