Re: squiddio plugin

I get "Server not Responding" and "Could not launch default browser" from clicking the two initial items in the right click menu. In both cases it suggests that I check my Internet connection, which seems to work......

Re: squiddio plugin

Thomas..
Have seen the same on my home connection on 64 bit Linux, but not from the Windows VM hosted on the very same machine. To make it more mysterious, the same machine works fine from the office. I suspect a wxGTK flaw that needs to be worked around somehow, but didn't have a closer look at it yet.

Re: squiddio plugin

Thomas...
It looks like wxDialUpManager::IsOnLine() is broken on wxGTK, at least while connect via Wi-Fi.
For testing purposes you can simply replace the body of squiddio_pi::IsOnline() function with
Code:
return true;

Re: squiddio plugin

maybe this plugin should use wxcurl like weatherfax for internet access. This would give a more reliable connection and can resume transfers and show download progress.

Re: squiddio plugin

thanks boat_alexandra - I have no experience with using wxcurl, but will look into it as soon as I have a chance. The weatherfax plugin seems like a good place to start.

Re: squiddio plugin

wxcurl only works when libcurl is available, which is not part of any OS.

Gerhard...
That's why we link it inside the plugin libraries.

Re: squiddio plugin

lib curl is handled by PluginCurl.cmake which ensures the needed dll files are distributed on windows, or the installed curl library is used on unix.

Re: squiddio plugin

About Squidio.

I had installed in the O Squidio 331931 Version and now I installed O 332107.
Or Squiddio adds new icons nice touch. I had already started using them ... and of course, they do not exist in O. Pfuuuu.

Re: squiddio plugin

Perhaps because Jeffrey Siegel, the owner an developer of ActiveCaptain opinions that the license used by OpenCPN "will not protect his intellectual property"...

There is some noise about this in a thread from 3 years ago, IIRC.
And some more bold statements from him at the "Signal K" forum at Google Groups recently. https://groups.google.com/forum/#!to...lk/KLDJKkwtLo4

Re: squiddio plugin

Jeffrey refuses an fully open source solution for active captain and also refuses the ability for users to fork the database.

Re: squiddio plugin

Using a WiFi boat system, I cannot get squiddio to work. As with Cagney above 'I get "Server not Responding" and "Could not launch default browser" from clicking the two initial items in the right click menu.'
I also don't understand how to implement, in simple terms, Pavel's work around. I'm no programmer.

Re: squiddio plugin

I can say it works very nicely on a wifi connection, under Win7 Dell XPS, downloading all the place tags for a large area quite quickly. These tags are stored on your machine so they are available with no connection. You can also delete them all if you need to. To keep the data but not have the tags show there are several approaches, the main one is to disable the plugin.

I think libcurl as in weatherfax might be a good solution. I know it made a difference to weatherfax_pi big time, for Windows users. Many thanks to Pavel and Sean for getting this libcurl library for Weatherfax working on Windows.
