Re: squiddio plugin

This is discussed under issues and cant be resolved until the plugin api supports another parameter.

Re: squiddio plugin

Please refer to this issue and Mauro's response.
https://github.com/mauroc/squiddio_pi/issues/141

Quote:
1 .When "Show Text" is unchecked while using POI Option oDraw textpoint, text is not shown. However when you change to Opencpn Wpts option, the POI text is shown even when "Show Text" is unchecked.
Correct. This is a known issue, and it is due to the fact that before oDraw became available, there was no way to programmatically hide the text through the plugin API. Then oDdraw came about and it looked like a much more viable approach, so I have been encouraging users to select that rendering option. It would be my preference to eliminate POIs as Opencpn Wpts altogether, if it wasn't that oDraw is not always present. Alternative , I could make a PR to OCPN to introduce the option to hide text from wpts from within a plugin
It would be better if squiddio were to just use odraw waypoints, but we cannot assure that Ocpn_Draw is always present. Two alternatives:

  1. If ODraw were made to be an internal plugin, then squiddio would be assured it was present.
  2. Or if the Plugin API were extended to allow a Plugin to turn off waypoint text, that would be another reasonable way to fix this problem!
This needs to be fixed somehow, it just can continue to be a problem that is noticed be users.

Re: squiddio plugin

Squiddio has not changed. Remove it from with opencpn in the plugin manager PIM. Then try reinstalling. If that does not wirk, find the plugin cache directory and remove all cached versions of squiddio. Then download again from PIM and reinstall

The use of POI requires an internet connection or cellular access.

Re: squiddio plugin

Squiddio operation depends on the website. I can confirm that the website does not appear to be available. I have written Mauro and will advise.

Squiddio is a valuable and useful plugin for OpenCPN. I hope the website can be resurrected.

Re: squiddio plugin

Mauro is aware of the issue and just back from sailing. He has plans to work on the website, so it should soon work.

Many thanks Mauro.

Re: squiddio plugin

Mauro reports,
Quote:
the squidd.io site is back to working correctly in https. Sorry for the downtime. I had renewed the certificate for 5 years last year just to avoid this, but the issuer has created a new policy where certs are 'suspended' every year and require a new CNAME to be registered with the DNS provider each time, for security. The work is not complicated, but requires an ssh connection, which a lot of marina wifis and cellular providers block.
Hopefully it didn't create too much frustration among users. The download from OCPN should have worked the whole time since that's over HTTP
Mauro
Mauro was sailing in the Med!

Squiddio is working well now.

Re: squiddio plugin

I've installed the sQuiddio plugin. Right click menu in OpenCPN has:
sQuiddio: Download local Points of Interest.
Clicking on that brings up a popup that flashes to fast to read and it doesn't seem there is anything downloaded. Solid Internet connection.
What am I missing?
Windows 10 OpenCPN 5.6.2
Thanks

I would like to add POIs in my area, using my PC.

Is there an easier way than clicking on the map?
It seems to get stuck on the POI that I entered, and I need to start over zooming on the map to add another?

A bulk import using XLS or CSV would be nice...

Re: squiddio plugin

It is not widely known but in addition to POI, Squiddio supports

1. NDBC Bouy Reports (wind and wave data).
2. One-click download of Satellite Maps for any Point of Interest
3. Share your position via mmsi and follow and stay in touch
4. Track friends boats and invite your friends to join a follow list.
5. Contribute and edit POI data.

The get these features you do need to register and log in and use your id code in the squiddio plugin.
Squiddio is free!
