SignalK / SigkSens (OpenPlotter)

Been away for a while but my boat automation project continues and I believe I'm almost there. I'm currently trying to wire up an ESP8266 Sensor to Signal K and decided that SigkSens looks like a wonderful tool.

I believe my (out-of-the-box) SignalK server is working fine as through help from people on this forum, the GPS receiver, through SignalK is visible in OpenCPN.

My challenge is that the ESP-01 with the latest version of SigkSens does not (seem to) connect to the SignalK Server. Using the Arduino IDE Serial Console I can see that:
  • It connects to the Openplotter Access point
  • It gets an IP Address (10.10.10.118 and OpenPlotter is running on 10.10.10.1)
  • The SigkSens config has:
    • signalKHost = ""
    • signalKPort = 80 (that seems to be the default)
    • signalKToken = the one I obtained from the SignalK Server
This is all shown in the Arduino IDE Serial window after which I should see that it tries to connect to the SignalK server but that never happens. In stead I get:

mDNSresponder started at <devicename>
SSDP Started
Started webserver
Ready.

The connection attempt seems to be missing before the Ready

The ESP8266 then starts sending out "{"updates":..."

Anyone knows what I'm missing here or:
  1. What is the port SignalK is listening to?
  2. Do I need to configure something else in the SignalK server to allow it to receive data from this sensor?
  3. Have I missed something?

up this post.
a pure system could use
Arduino depth sensor
Arduino anemometer
Ardupilot drone sensor with compass, accelerometer, roll, pitch and yaw

all linked with ESP

and pypilot for autopilot with a pneumatic motor or used car wiper motor

and finally a boom pilot and self-reffing system

  1. The one you set up in for example "Server" -> "Data connection"
  2. See 1. and the shot with a network connection example.
If you've a serial connection it's easier to use Openplotter Serial and connect it to SignalK that way.
