Re: ShipDriver - another BETA!!!

Mike
COG predictor not following path and remains in original orientation from start.
I do see the red dot and length varies with speed change though.(2nd screen shot)
Right click select vessel start position a mystery bag though, does nothing.
Will be off the grid for 2 weeks now so I will have another crack at it when I get back.
Good effort so far, entertaining.

Re: ShipDriver - another BETA!!!

This is my useage:
1. Move the boat to where you want to start.
2. Start ShipDriver plugin.
3. Right-click and 'Select vessel start position'.
4. Press 'START'. You should see the vessel colour change to red to show it has a GPS signal.
5. Change initial heading with the rudder to match the course to set off with.
6. Increase speed.
7. Steer as required.

Re: ShipDriver - another BETA!!!

Mike, I downloaded and tried it. It's a gas. It's like a steering wheel or tiller and a throotle! Brought up Dashboard to see what nmea is generated. Have not thought about why to the other headings are not showing, but perhaps someone knows.

By the way, I had Dirk's new plugin Deviation_pi active with the preferences set "Use to send nmea true north"
Did not check to see that that was working, but nothing broke.

Looks good.

Re: ShipDriver - another BETA!!!

Mike,

what about Internationalization, the language files?
Crowdin?

Was talking to an owner of a sailing school this morning and he found it very interesting to let the novices sail through some scenario created from VDR data sets.
"Now what what you do, what do the COLREGs say here?"
For example situations as described by Dockhead in the lengthy
'Collision Avoidance, Cones of Uncertainty, and Appropriate CPA' thread...

Re: ShipDriver - another BETA!!!

Thanks Hubert. Interesting. Library of VDR data sets?
Crowdin ... yes, but very early Beta at the moment. Perhaps I could include a translation in 0.3.

Re: ShipDriver - another BETA!!!

Opencpn beta file thingie has many nmea data files with a number of them with intense ais.
These can be played with VDR or vdrplayer, at the same time as Shipdriver.

I Like the idea of col reg tutorials and vdr examples.

Vesper Marine AIS - Cruisers & Sailing Forums

https://tgp-architects.com/files/ use this rguser, rgpass

Re: ShipDriver - another BETA!!!

Mike, I compiled from your repos again and ran ship driver.
I was wondering why the route is so jumpy.

Re: ShipDriver - another BETA!!!

Using the Opencpn Alpha version, with ShipDriver
I have to emergency stop in order to change course.

Thumbs up Re: ShipDriver - another BETA!!!

Hi Mike,

Just tried ShipDriver in combination with a Watchdog Boundary Alarm and I love it! Great for making screenshots for tutorials

Thx!

Hi Rick,

I have the same experience. It seems that on courses not straight N, S, E or W, the track is well, sort of the way I steer my boat in real life (if not straighter....).

On courses N and W it is an almost straight line (have not tried S and E yet, but expect them also to be straight).

Re: ShipDriver - another BETA!!!

I agree with Dirk about the utility/use of shipdriver, I think it is a very clever idea and I think it will prove very useful at times.

Re: ShipDriver - another BETA!!!

Version 0.3 is now on GitHub:

https://github.com/Rasbats/shipdriver_pi/releases

The plugin has a new icon (Steering Wheel)
There is an autopilot type control as well as the tiller.(Thanks Rick)
Auto starts this control. Use 'Standby' to return to tiller steering.
Better presentation of heading.
Steering is much improved! Now shows a smooth track.(v0.2 track is the jagged track at bottom left)

Re: ShipDriver - another BETA!!!

Its very interesting that you've made this "virtual pilot" (does not follow a route -yet) and Sean has just upload a pypilot version for the real world.

Can't wait to try it. I think it will be useful for testing O.
