Re: ShipDriver - another BETA!!!

HI, I am new here and am hoping to revive this old thread and get some help with the Shipdriver plugin.

I think I am attempting to install it correctly, however that is not working. This is as far as I get.

Re: ShipDriver - another BETA!!!

Hello !
I am trying to build and play with the ShipDriver plugin on linux.
Unfortunately I am blocked when installing the plugin, OpenCPN says it installed right but when checking the logs I have:

Code:
15:31:37.347 MESSAGE PluginHandler.cpp:994 Installing ShipDriver-2.5.3+2009291236.v2.5.3_ubuntu-18.04-x86_64.tar.gz from local cache
15:31:37.399 MESSAGE PluginHandler.cpp:587 archive finish write error: Can't restore time
15:31:37.399 MESSAGE PluginHandler.cpp:587 archive write install header error: Can't create '/json'
15:31:48.068 MESSAGE pluginmanager.cpp:2053 Plugin is compatible by elf library scan: true
15:31:48.068 MESSAGE pluginmanager.cpp:1069 PlugInManager: loading plugins from /home/cparent/.local/lib/opencpn;/usr/local/lib/opencpn;/usr/lib/opencpn;/usr/local/lib/opencpn
Could someone help me with this issue ? I am running OpenCPN built from v5.2.0 tag and I use ShipDriver on master branch

thousand_sunny...

You are playing with an experimental version (2.5.3).

Try downloading the zip for the 2.4 release and see if that works.

ThatSailingGuy...

Installed Manjaro. Installed some of the managed plugins. At the moment 'ShipDriver' has not been published as a managed plugin. We are working on this. It needs to be available as a flatpack file. None of the experimental versions worked, although they could be imported.

To be continued.

Re: ShipDriver - another BETA!!!

Hello again !

I started to play and bit with the shipdriver plugin.

From what I understand, when we enable the plugin and start sailing with it, the plugin generates virtual NMEA sentences that are sent to OpenCPN.

I have a gpsd NMEA source as well set to priority 1. What I would like to achieve is to "deactivate" it when the plugin is generating virtual NMEA sentences.
Is there a way in the plugin API to get access to the DataStream Objects of OpenCPN in order to activate/deactivate it when we want ?

Re: ShipDriver - another BETA!!!

Detect NMEA stream from GPSD. If detected set 'WANTS_NMEA_SENTENCES' to false?

How to detect the stream from GPSD?

Re: ShipDriver - another BETA!!!

What I meant was to deactivate the DataSource GPSD when the plugin is enabled and sends virtual NMEA sentences, so that the boat moves only according to the virtual NMEA created by the ship_driver plugin.

I think i will need to a way to access the some datasources array from inside the plugin to do so, right ?

Sorry... nothing found in the API. You will need to look at wxWidgets/C++. Outside my comfort zone!

Re: ShipDriver - another BETA!!!

ThatSailingGuy...

Thanks for pointing me to Manjaro. This uses a Flatpak install of OpenCPN and needs a flatpak tarball. This was failing but Alec Leamas has fixed the build (amongst many other things).

ShipDriver will soon be one of the managed plugins. Until this happens can you try a flatpack download here:

Please let us know the result. You may have to stretch the plugin dialog a bit to see the speed control.
