serial port issue on OpenCPN

I've tried both Bullseye/OpenCPN and OpenPlotter with Bullseye and got the same problem with a serial connection.

Both show output in the NMEA Debug Window, but the connection in the OpenCPN window just flashed green every 3-8 seconds. It isn't strong enough to share with SignalK or a UDP connection.

Is this a known issue and is there a work-around? Thanks.

In case you're wondering about the deafening silence, most readers of your post can't visualise your problem because your terminology is confusing.

Does this mean you are seeing valid NMEA 0183 sentences scrolling in the NMEA Debug Window?

Do you mean the GPS Status icon on the top right of the screen or do you mean something different?

Consistent use of the correct terminolgy, screenshots, log files, copy of the output from the NMEA Debug window and a description off what devices you are using would be the bare minimum before any advice could be offered.

OpenPlotter with Bullseye - that must be an old image, to fault find it might be better to start with a platform that is known to work.
https://openplotter.readthedocs.io/l...wnloading.html
Then the serial app will give diagnostic output for the connection, click on the details button

might help with diagnostics.

If using openplotter it's much better to ask there, sometimes there's misinformation given elsewhere which can be unhelpful & misleading however well meaning

Re: serial port issue on OpenCPN

Thanks all, but I downloaded the latest version of OpenPlotter last Saturday, and Bullseye is the latest rpi OS. Yes the upper right corner icon is a red stoplight but does very briefly flash the green bars representative of a good connection. Both DPT and GLL scroll in the NMEA Debug screen in the appropriate color representing valid data. These flashes occur for less than a second and happen every 3-8 seconds. The OpenPlotter documentation did not show the newest location of the Debug option, but I have since found it just going through software options. I will follow with that outcome when I get back this weekend.

Re: serial port issue on OpenCPN

The debug window can show you that messages are coming in, but it does not do a full parse to tell you if the messages and their data are valid. What you describes sounds like two messages with GNSS information, one that is valid and one where the message is marked as not valid. If you can copy/paste the messages from the debug window here (not a screenshot/picture, the actual text) there is lots of help available.

If you have the debug text to post, use the "Go Advanced" button when posting, and then put your text in a code block (the "#" symbol at the top of the advanced editor). This will force the forum software to leave your pasted text alone, not add line breaks, etc.

Apologies, bookworm must be have been an update, shouldn't matter though. What model Pi are you using?

Just to confirm - did you set up the serial device in the openplotter serial app as per the v4 docs?
No need to go near opencpn connect menu or signalk, invariably better to let openplotter set it all up. https://openplotter.readthedocs.io/l...erial_app.html
Then as per the docs the details button will show you the gps details. Worth a look just to check.

Once set up you can have a look at signalk databrowser to check gps data is getting into the Pi then take it from there.
