If you want to keep exploring Watership Down there's always micropython for esp32/8266..

Thonny is an easier IDE to deal with for simple stuff imho. This hasn't been touched for ages but might give a few pointers, thonny will load micropython onto the esp.
Nothing compared to senseEsp but easier to see what's going on & understand.

Hoping to use a Galaxy S21+ 5G with android v14, but all of Meowsbox's software is reported as not supported on my devices... could it be an international conflict? don't know... found a pair of GPS tether apps (GPS Tether Server/Client by Bricatta) that does appear to be compatible. They only have 2 stars however, so i guess i'll come back to that... all others i can see with the search terms i used (share, bluetooth, tether, GPS/GNSS and variations similar) seem to be client apps to connect external RXvrs to your phone not the other way around... I found my bluetooth connections though, thanks

I hear you here... the app i found is a TCP/IP over WiFi server/client system, with optional encryption, and boasts an experimental NMEA 0183 feature. Don't know yet if the client is just a generic puTTY terminal but the programmer has listed contact info... I'll update w/ my experience.

Very nice & simple solution @maelruan and while bench testing this was a short term experiment to get me through the off-season, redundancy is the real goal... unfortunately my contract frowns on me rooting the device i wanted to use... so until i stop sending my first born child to Verizon, one body part at a time, @barcoMeCasa's suggestion still wins the hour ...thanks again, to all, this was a great first post experience!

Re: Sending smartphone gps signal to openplotter

There is a wifi bridge for Open WRT.

So as long as you have a compatible router with USB (or with serial pins) you can just use this. No coding required, except a txt file where you set up the in and out parameters. Super easy. Super super easy.

It s a mid Amp solution - a small router tends to use about .25 to 1A. While ESP may use .25 or less.
