Sending Routes to Zeus Plotter

I have the GoFree adapter and Opencpn is seeing all of the NMEA data just fine.

I also use Navionics on the iPad and that app allows me to create routes and click a button to send the route to the chartplotter. It saves the file onto the sdcard of the Zues.

Is there a way to do something similar with Opencpn? I've tried to connect to the Zeus as a network drive but the closest I've gotten was an internal webpage that allows uploading grib files, usr files, and apset files (whatever those last two are).

Has anyone found a way to upload gpx to the sdcard?

OpenCPN cannot be run on ipad, however you can use VNC to display and use O.

Sorry for the confusion. I'm running Opencpn on Windows. I only mentioned the iPad to point out that Navionics is able to send routes to the chartplotter wirelessly so I was hoping that Windows could do the same.

Well there is gofree which you can connect to, and B&G has come out with wifi chartplotters too. Those might be somewhat crippled, but probably not. Can you connect with an IP address via UDP or TCPIP? You'll have to check your manual. As far as sending routes to the Zeus, this is the first time the question has been asked, so we do not know.

However there are various ways to accomplish this task with Furuno and Garmin....

Do a search on the forum and the manual for that and try it.

Let us know what you find out. If you want good help you're going to have to be more specific about equipment, connections, and you are going to have to dig into it and figure it out, do some searches, read and then ask some knowing questions.

In my first post I say I have the GoFree and I also say I have the Zeus. I also say I can connect to an internal webpage on the plotter. That's pretty specific...

I've recently posted a link to a Vesper article on how to connect vesper wifi to Opencpn, that may also help. Do a search on recent posts today about that in the forum. It might help you get the general principles. I think you want a TCPIP or TCP connection.

What Navionic does we can't know but you would be on a correct track here. First of all there must be a way that Windows understands there is a connection and a usable IP address to the Zeus SD-card. To copy files from OCPN we use the OS way, Windows in this case. If Windows don't find the SD-card OCPN has no backdoor to any network unit.
A far fetched way may be to sniff, by Wireshark, the network traffic while Navionics sends a route and try to program a similar method??

No many helpful replies in this thread and comments by people without any understanding of simrad/b&g/lowrance systems.

As I understand it you have two networking options with the MFD and gofree.

1) Is that the gofree acts as an access point and other devices connect to it. This is how with Navionics you send routs directly to the mfd.

2) the gofree connects directly to your existing network. In this mode I’ve been unable to send routes to the MFD via Navionics. I believe it uses a certain port but I don’t know what it is.

Provided your windows machine is connected to the right network, in theory opencpn should be able to send waypoints to the mfd. The openCPN manual tells you which sentences to send. The diagnostic tab in OpenCPN will highlight output sentences in blue, so you can check that they are being sent correctly.

All that being said, I have read everything out there though and i so far haven’t been able to get my Simrad MFD or my autopilot to pick up/respond to these sentences.

I’m assuming the OP is facing a similar issue.

Okay, this is what I was able to do. I used gpsbable to convert the gpx file to use (lorance) and then connected to the MFD's IP address in my web browser. This internal page allowed me to upload the .usr file.

The gofree suggestion was mentioned below and is obvious. If gofree does not work, then perhaps some functionality can be found with Vesper wifi or something like Yachtd Devices, artisense, or perhaps vyacht. Sorry, I have not messed with my Zeus 12 Touch and have not found a pressing need to connect it to wifi yet. Hakan's suggestion to use an SD-card might be useful. You will surely have to be the pioneer.

I'm going to keep looking for a better way to do this (there just has to be ��). The MFD can import .gpx just fine off the sdcard but only .usr through its web interface. I'll poke around on its web server to see if I can get to the sdcard directly.

Cray, That would be wonderful. It is something I probably should have done.

Perhaps a plugin with conversion from opencpn navobj.xml format to lowrance .usr format, with an interface to select what to convert, might work.

However this would require lots of programming.
