SART

Folks...

This is fun.

Cruising the Exumas, Bahamas.

Today I received a live AIS SART alert. OpenCPN 3.2.0 did the right thing, bringing up an alert dialog and the proper red-cross chart symbol.

I called the co-located AIS target, a Class-A megayacht, and asked if everything was OK. Capt told me that a guest probably was playing with a life jacket, and this happened frequently. Apparently the SART transponders are sensitive creatures.....

Anyone else seen live SART alerts?

Yup, Big Majors Spot is uber-yacht central in March.

Re: SART

Dave,
I saw the same SART first on my Vesper display. Then brought up OpenCPN and sure enough there was the jagged red-outline message of a SART and then a MOB. Nice of the mega-yachts to help test these features. Although it does kind of start to sound like the Boy who cried wolf. No one seemed to think this was a real emergency.
